Ball Hitting Runner In Fair Territory, Not Called Out
So I was playing as the Braves against the Phillies last night. Runner was on third for Philly with 2 outs. Werth pulls a ball that ends up hitting the runner in fair territory, as a result the ball stopped and my 3b wasn't able to get to it in time to throw either runner out and the runner wasn't called out either. Not sure if this was a one time bug or if this is a problem with the game. What have you guys seen when a runner is hit with the ball in fair territory? Has he been called out?My Teams

Re: Ball Hitting Runner In Fair Territory, Not Called Out
The logic for the runner being hit by a batted ball in fair territory does not appear to be in the game. I have seen it occur a few times without the runner being called out.“The saddest part of life is when someone who gave you your best memories becomes a memory” -

Luckily it's pretty rare since this is the first time I have seen it happen. Just annoyed that it ended up costing me a run late in the game. Hopefully the logic is implemented next year.My Teams

Re: Ball Hitting Runner In Fair Territory, Not Called Out
In my old Marlins franchise (I have a new one with the OSFMV4 Updated Roster) I was on the positive end of this. I believe it was Dan Uggla at second base and I can't quite remember who it was that hit the ball and it plunks Uggla on the foot, stopping dead. That put me into a first & third situation. I believe it was my pitcher who was batting.I'm a Bigger Knicks Fan Than Spike Lee!

Just to be sure, did the ball pass any fielder first (not including the pitcher)? Because the ruling on that really is if the ball passes any infielder (that isn't the pitcher) first and no other infielder had a chance to make a play on it, and of course the runner didn't intentionally interfere with the ball, then it is a live ball.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

No it did not. It hit the runner about halfway down the third base line.My Teams

Re: Ball Hitting Runner In Fair Territory, Not Called Out
Haha yeah, he should be out.
Not only should he be out, but I would put him on the bench if he was on my team. When you're leading off third base you're supposed to get out in foul territory for this very reason. That way if a ball hits you, not only are you not interfering with a fair ball and a chance for extra bases from the batter's perspective, but it is also just a foul ball and we do it again.
When you run back to the base, you're suppose to go in fair territory/down the line. This gives the catcher difficulty throwing it back to third base as there's no real open lane for him to throw (and going on the foul side means a cross-body throw to the third baseman's backhand side), so his only real chance is to aim right for your back. Either he'll dot you (which is better than being tagged out), or you'll already be sliding by then and you're probably safe anyway.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Ball Hitting Runner In Fair Territory, Not Called Out
I've had this happen twice, both in my favor. The first time it A-Rod and it was kicked all the way to the dugout and was called fair. I got a double.

Yeah, I agree. Ive had this happen against me as well as for me. Both times both runners (the batter and the runner) were safe. It doesn't look like the logic is there yet.PSN: ckarlic

Re: Ball Hitting Runner In Fair Territory, Not Called Out
I had this happen to me once. With my team in the field, 1st and 2nd, no outs, I really needed a DP. I got the groundball I was looking for, but it hit the runner between second and third. No out call. Needless to say, I was pretty annoyed at having to deal with a bases loaded, no out situation.Comment
