How To Align Conferences For The Long Haul

Understandably, NCAA '11 will not feature the 2011 conference outlook.

However, thanks to custom conferences, we can at least swap teams out.

How will you realign the conferences to best reflect reality for 2011?

    I will likely:

Move the Big Ten teams to the Big XII slots and add Nebraska
Move the Pac 10 teams to the Big Ten slots and add Utah and Colorado and subtract Washington State or Stanford (move to WAC)
Move the Big XII teams to the Pac 10 slots and lose Nebraska and Colorado
Move Boise State to the Mtn West in Utah's slot

    -or-

Move the Big Ten teams to the Big XII slots and add Nebraska
Move the Pac 10 teams to the ACC slots and add Utah and Colorado
Move the Big XII teams to the Pac 10 slots and lose Nebraska and Colorado
Move Boise State to the Mtn West in Utah's slot
Move the ACC to the Big Ten slots and drop Wake Forest or Duke or NC State (move to CUSA and bump UAB to Sun Belt then move North Texas to WAC)
    Predictions:

Nebraska Football: 12-2 (Big Ten Runner-Up & Capitol One Bowl Champions)

Kansas City Chiefs: 10-6 (1st in AFC West)

There's been a lot of discussion about this so far. Here are some of them:

Only one I'll do is Boise to the MWC right away. Swap them with Wyoming. And then I'll replace Wyoming with Gonzaga teambuilder team.
      My Teams:
      NCAA FB-Oregon Ducks
      NCAA BB-Gonzaga Bulldogs
      NBA-Portland Trail Blazers
      NFL-Carolina Panthers
      MLB-San Francisco Giants
      NHL-Los Angeles Kings
Won't change this signature until Oregon wins a national championship (started 3/10/10)

I'll end up swapping the Big 10 and Big 12 conferences and give the B10 the CCG that they'll have and take it away from the B12 like it should be. Through all of my experimenting I wasn't able to find a solution to the Pac10 that made me happy.

Why not switch the big ten with the mac and add notre dame or pitt and have the championship game in detroit in big ten country and switch the pac 10 with big 12.

How do we know exactly that the B12 will be losing their CCG?

Easy, move boise to the mw, then take pac ten teams move them to big 12, then add utah and colorado to the big 12. Then take big 12 teams and move them to the pac ten.

Re: How To Align Conferences For The Long Haul

props to jello for linking all the other threads on this, they were interesting reads...

i think i have decided that i don't want to see messed up conference name/patches/bowl tie-ins in my game, for me i think that would detract from the overall experience more than not being able to see Utah play conference games against Pac-12? schools

since i like to dive right into dynasty mode on day 1, i usually sim ahead 5 years to get all the players named and start from there... so i think what I will do is put the "major players" in the right spots and play NCAA commissioner in deciding who gets dropped, so probably "relegating" the Washington or Arizona schools out of the Pac, Indiana out of the Big Ten to make room for Nebraska, etc., and maybe throwing some other schools around while i'm at it...

with that, the way i see it:
Pros: bowl tie-ins and regional conference areas are preserved (for recruiting or user team promotion/demotion)
Cons: no Big-10 champ. game and at least one school has to be squeezed out of a BCS conference

I think I would rather have that than constantly remind myself which conference is which, and have weird bowl matchups, and wonder why a created Cal Poly team gets offered a spot in the Big Ten (just an example)

the best option IMHO would be if we could customize conferences to our liking after each dynasty season... I am the type of person who would have a FIELD DAY with that, it would almost make the BCS tolerable in the absence of a college football championship tournament
Those who stay will be champions 〽️

Because according to NCAA rules a conference has to have at least twelve teams to be able to have a conference championship. And the Big 12 won't as of 2011.

Re: How To Align Conferences For The Long Haul

If you are bothered about the naming of conferences in the game, and only want a small number of other teams involved try this. Unless you play as Indiana it'll work out nicely.

                    Nebraska > Big10
                    Utah > Pac10
                    Colorado >Pac10
                    Boise St. > MWC
Indiana > WAC (based on 1 winning season in the last 15 years)

Then fill the Big 12 with either
                    Wash + Wash St. OR
                    AZ + AZ St.

Moving Washington weakens the Big12 more (as seems to be happening), moving AZ/AZ St. keeps a couple more rivalries intact. If you play as Oregon.

Why is everyone moving Indiana out of the Big Ten? Move Northwestern. Nobody likes those nerds.

But seriously, if you're moving IU, why move them to the WAC? Why not the MAC?

The biggest issue with this is you take away the BCS bid from the Big 10 and, even worse, you give an automatic bid to the MAC schools. I'd also guess that you give the MAC schools a good recruiting pitch with conference strength.

i think i will do this, except move Indiana to C-USA and move one of the western-most schools in C-USA to the WAC, maybe swap a couple schools there because Louisiana Tech all the way out in the WAC always bothered me...

Is it possible to play year 1 of an offline dynasty with the conferences "as is" and then in year 2 re-adjust them to your liking? Or do you only have 1 chance to change them around right when you start the dynasty?
