Should I bother to look at 1* recruits?
I'm playing as Arkansas State, a 1* prestige school. In my first season I went 3-9 and landed 6 recruits (playing on Heisman difficulty on both recruiting and gameplay). I went after 3* and 2* and came away with six 2* lol. I didn't even look at 1*. With a team this bad should I be looking to get anyone and hope for a miraculous season?KB24Tags: None -
Re: Should I bother to look at 1* recruits?
I would honestly hate to see what a 1 star looks like. I've recruited some 2 stars that ended up with a 49 ovr rating so I couldn't imagine a 1 star. It's probably just as well to take a walk on. Too bad recruits are half worthless. -
Re: Should I bother to look at 1* recruits?
I'd say no. 1* are probably only as good, if not worse than, walk-ons. I'm playing as North Texas (1* prestige, All American recruiting diff.) and I targeted a couple during my first season (ended up with about 5 3*, 10 2* and 5 1*), I think the highest rated guy was like a 48. Most were around 40. They're pretty much worthless, I'm not wasting a recruiting board spot on them anymore.PSN: sleepy1nsomniacComment

Re: Should I bother to look at 1* recruits?
Its hard for me to image a one star prestige school being able to get by without having quite a few 1 star players, unless you are recruiting on Freshman difficulty.
I think you need to look for specialists. All those guys will have a low Overall, but they could have some specific skills that allow them to be solid contributors.
In my Nebraska dynasty I had to go after a one star kicker because I lost out on all the higher ranked players, but I got lucky because he had a Kick power of C+. His power rating is in the 70's now, that is great for a one star player.Jordan Mychal Lemos

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.
Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.Comment

I wouldn't bother with them. They tend to clutter up the board and walk-ons are just as good as the 1* recruits.Rangers - Cowboys - Aggies - Stars - Mavericks

Re: Should I bother to look at 1* recruits?
This. I'm playing as EMU and I have had to go in depth and take a look at what the 1*'s could offer, cause in my first season it was miraculous that I was able to get one 3*, and the handful of 2*'s that I got.Its hard for me to image a one star prestige school being able to get by without having quite a few 1 star players, unless you are recruiting on Freshman difficulty.

Re: Should I bother to look at 1* recruits?
I've been playing as a 2* prestige school and have to settle for one star prospects on occasion. They don't have anything to contribute right off the bat, but after a redshirt and a few seasons on the bench, some will progress to be contributors by their junior or senior seasons.
There's a really wide range of prospect OVR scores based on stars - I've seen 2*'s in the 40's and 2*'s in the 70's coming in.Comment

Re: Should I bother to look at 1* recruits?
Oh wow, this is good to know. I thought that 1*'s would have some value... but I guess not. I've been recruiting a team of 2*'s and 1*'s with my Cupcake team builder team... thinking I'd put together a solid bunch of players... Guess not

Re: Should I bother to look at 1* recruits?
Thanks for the replies guys. I completely underestimated Heisman recruiting difficulty and need to pay more attention this upcoming season with my hideous Arkansas State team. I'll keep my eye out for those specialist 1* guys.
Just a quick question, is there a way for me to look at which states are my pipeline states? Dumb question I know lol.Last edited by dmick4324; 07-20-2010, 02:33 PM.KB24Comment

Re: Should I bother to look at 1* recruits?
On the recruiting screen with all the squares, there's a square in the middle row called Prospect Map, that shows your pipeline states (they are a lighter shade color than the other states), plus it tells you your states on the Prospect Map square as well (for example, since you're Ark. St., it'll say like AK and TX in the square, those are your pipelines). Hope this makes sensePSN: sleepy1nsomniacComment

Re: Should I bother to look at 1* recruits?
Yeah, one star recruits can add some value depending on what skill they might be good at.
I had a guy years ago when I ran a NIU dynasty on the Ps2 that was a 1 * that I just filled out the roster with because he had a nice hands rating.
He was slow, had no size or acc but he could catch. Man could he catch. He became my 3rd down guy in his sophmore season and was always clutch when I needed to pick up the first. No matter if he took a hit or not. He was starting for me as a JR and cought over 60 balls as a SR. Loved that guy, he was one of my fav Madden/NcAA guys ever.Comment

Re: Should I bother to look at 1* recruits?
Are you guys sure 1* recruits are no better than walk-ons? I always figured any recruit would be better than leaving a spot open and having to get a walk-on.
And I don't see how you can completely ignore 1* recruits especially in the first couple of years with a 1* team. With my North Texas dynasty in year one I had a couple of positions like FB where I had to either leave the position unfilled or sign a 1* b/c there weren't many prospects at that position. I'd still rather grab a recruit, any recruit, over a walk-on. If walk-ons were just as good there would be no incentive to even look at the bottom tier players since you could just leave the position open and get an automatic walk-on to fill it.Comment

Re: Should I bother to look at 1* recruits?
What I've done is focus on higher ranked player early on, but when most of them commit (either to you or another school, happened around week 12-13 for me) then I'll look at the 1* recruits who no one is focusing on and have me in their top 3 and try and recruit them.
However, I've noticed that as soon as I start going after them, their other two top 3 schools will too. I had a 1* ATH (C+ Arm Strength rating, so I'm guessing a QB) that no one had been recruiting by week 12, and I was his #1 school (Rice, 2* prestige). So I started working him and as soon as I put him on my board and called him, Baylor and UTEP (his #2 and #3 schools) started recruiting him too.Comment

Re: Should I bother to look at 1* recruits?
they are worthless...Walk-ons are just as good if not better IMHO.....I had a walk-on TE end up a starter....and in Yr 3 he is only a 75 ovr but has 89 spd...89 acc...77 Cth and 87 spec cth.....Pretty beastly considering how he got on my team....(playing as Nevada BTW). He is only 6'1" though...lolComment
