I was in a ranked match with Iowa against his Texas A&M. The game was very tight and back-and-forth. We both played sim ball which made it very enjoyable. Just before halftime, I went up 14-7 but allowed him to make a quick drive down the field and get a FG before the quarter ended. I knew it would come back to bite me...
In the 2nd half the game continued very back-and-forth. He got up 17-14 and early in the 4th I was driving down the field. My drive stalls with a 4th & 7 from the 10, and I elect to kick it and tie it up. 17-17. He takes the ball and has some trouble. It takes a 4th down conversion for him to keep the drive alive. He has a 40 yard gainer to get him down to my 20. With just over a minute to go, he busts a run into the end zone to take the lead 24-17.
Ricky Stanzi then goes into overdrive working the no-huddle offense and pushing the ball down the field. We get inside the red zone as the clock continues to tick down and then with 0:11 on the clock, finally get in the end zone! ...Then it's decision time. 24-23 with the PAT coming up. What do I do? I keep the offense on the field. I throw a short pass to the TE, and it's swatted away.
Crushed, I select onside kick with eleven lonely seconds on the clock. Somehow, someway, I aim it just right... it bounces off a TAMU player's shins... and I dive onto it! With one timeout remaining I send the offense back onto the field, hoping to reach the TAMU 35 on one play.
Shotgun Empty Trips is the formation. Stick n Nod is the play. The TE breaking back over the middle is the pass. I hit him and he is tackled right away on the TAMU 39! With 0:04 left I call my final timeout down 24-23 and send out the kick team. Of course, he calls a timeout, and my kicker is iced.
Daniel Murray, my K, has a Kick Power of 93. This is a 56 yard field goal attempt with no wind and I'm iced. I line it up as best I can and say a silent prayer just before I fatefully pull back that right stick and flick it forward. The camera follows the ball floating in slow motion toward the goalpost. The landing recticle is behind the posts!!! I watch the ball flip end over end and think it has the distance!!!!! As it gets ever closer... and closer.... it doinks off of the top of the crossbar... but will it fall forward or backwards???? The ball falls inches short of the crossbar and lands harmlessly onto the end zone turf. TAMU 24, Iowa 23 final.
It's the things like these that make me love NCAA. This game got a greatness score of 1585, but I know it was the single greatest game I have played in my eight years of NCAA football, or any sports video game for that matter. Thank you EA and thank you archangelus2 for making this possible. Together you made this experience incredible. I will be talking about this game for a long, long time.
