    Bill Abner Impressions

If anyone is intersted Bill Abner posted early impressions on his blog:

A blog where a deranged Ohio State Buckeye and a rabid Michigan Wolverine fan come together... and air grievances.

I'm happy to see Bill things OL ratings matter, this was huge for me. Being able to complete 38 passes to a HB stinks tho. And his comments on the wounded duck, didn't they patch this last year?...sounds like a day 1 or 2 patch is in the works.

Some good points. Glad to see the Extra Point wasn't flat out removed (a little thing, but cool). I know all these things are individual, but I'm also glad that running feels so good to him and ratings seem to matter in blocking. Still bummed to see that DB AI is still so bad.

As he said though, it's with a "beta" version of the game, so hopefully any early patches include a fix to cover that.

On a side note, it's kind of amusing to me that they are actually releasing retail games and openly referring to them as "beta" in any way...the "launch patch" is officially the standard, I guess...lol.

LOL, that's what I'm basing my assumption on...but the thing is, if the day one patch takes up half the free ones...would they be better off waiting a week or two for impressions?

Although it seems patch #1 is more technical and patch#2 is more gameplay,so possibly that's SOP for EA now?

Nice Read. Seems abner was a little more calm in his impressions than he usually is. Also seems like he might actually be enjoying the game a bit more.

Sad to hear that kick returns are still difficult a la NCAA, but hopefully something that can be addressed.

Well, I don't know how it applies to their patch allotments, but it's a good question though. I would be interested to know how that works as well.

As far as SOP, it seems to be that way for games in general, not just EA. I don't know too many games (especially sports...or anything on an annual cycle) that comes out now without a patch at launch or shortly after.

Guess it's the nature of the beast; blessing and a curse. Faster fixes, but weaker QA in general (or so it seems). At least the truly bad stuff can actually (in most cases) be fixed though.

i hope there is a way to patch this or fix it with sliders or something because if its like this, guys like cribbs and hester have no use on their teams in madden since they are subpar receivers

I have to say that this was a good read. It's still a bummer about the franchise mode offline not been touched hardly. But on another note. I have to disagree with him on the AI giving up big yards on the screen plays. From what I've seen on the demo. If the AI does give up the HB screen pass. The AI D usually recover quick and run after you and allow only about 5-6 yards. And on the WR screen the AI does real good job of keeping on that. I've busted out a few good gains on WR screen. But most of the time the AI covers it pretty well. But overall good review by Bill Abner.

I love the impression on kickoff returns, even though he had it in his dislikes.

Kickoffs were so obnoxiously easy last year. I could take any guy with speed and score 10 times with him in a season. Which was flat out ridiculous.

Josh Cribbs has 8 kickoff returns for TDs in his career. He's regarded as the best ever. In 2009 he had 3. He averaged 27 yards per return. In 2007 he had 2 TDs and averaged 30 point something per return. And this is the BEST EVER.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't everyone whine about how hard it is until Madden patches it so it's broken again.

Bill is spot on and he i one of the people to lean towards regarding feedback....

One of my biggest fear with all this CASUAL focus garbage was turning MADDEN 11 into a Score-fest...Sliders help, but it looks like Offense is still the king and the game leans too much towards big plays and big scores.

Even in the demo and jacking EVERYTHING up to the max, HUGE plays and Tons of broken tackles are way way too common.

Still standing firm on my choice to wait til september-ish before i decide to fork over $60. Madden brings nothing to the table that NCAA isnt already giving me...Aside from NFL teams and dreadlocks that is.

Don't understand what you are saying in your last line but....

Good to hear positive stuff from BA. I really trust his opinion.

I wonder if there really is adaptive AI at work here and that accounts for some of the fairly significant differences in results

I actually dig how hard it is to return kicks for a TD. I thought it happened way too often in Madden 10, however it seems impossible to do in the 11 Demo. It should be tweaked but I don't think it needs to be tweaked by much. Nothing made me crack up more then returning back to back kick offs for a TD
