Is there a point to returning kickoffs?
I've played three games the last few days. Cannot remember a single kickoff where the returner wasn't down between the 20 and 30 yl. Except one where I tried some foolish juke moves, but that was my poor play. Any suggestions for spicing this up a bit?Tags: None -

I took one to the house today during a snow game. Before that, I was lucky to get the ball out to the 20 most times.Comment

What are you looking to do? Sounds pretty realistic to me.Comment

Re: Is there a point to returning kickoffs?
Well, the average return probably ends up near the 30 or so IRL, perhaps a bit beyond, but some go to the 40, others the 20, etc. They don't all end at the 27 plus or minus 2 yards. It seems like every time I kickoff to an AI team, they go pretty much straight ahead, there is a big pile up around the 25 where they get tackled, and that is it.
I guess if I want to improve average starting position I can shorten kickoff length sliders, but I'm just look for greater variety in the results of the return.Comment

Re: Is there a point to returning kickoffs?
Exactly. I noticed this too when I was playing.
Put your fastest guy back there and its a much better chance for him to break it, guys with higher Acceleration get up the field faster, while guys with great speed can outrun the whole defense when they get in space.Comment

Re: Is there a point to returning kickoffs?
If you start running forward just before the ball reaches you (takes a bit of practice to time right consistently) you will have the ball with a running start and this will VASTLY improve your returns. I've taken 3 to the house doing this and now i start around the 30 when I dont.Originally posted by Kaiser Wilhelmthere should not be ties occurring in the NFL except when neither team wins the game.Comment

Re: Is there a point to returning kickoffs?
I've returned 3 in close to 40 games.
2 with Mizzou, 1 with SFU. Both against substantially lower rated teams. I think I was on Heisman for one, All-American for the other two. It's more than possible to take kickoff returns to the house.
Punt returns have been a different story for me.Comment

Re: Is there a point to returning kickoffs?
I am more concerned about the CPU's complete inability to take a return back against me or threaten to take one back for that matter. 30 yards would seem like a big return for the CPU.Last edited by mgoblue678; 08-05-2010, 06:39 PM.My Teams

Re: Is there a point to returning kickoffs?
This is one of the things I hope doesn't become "Easy Street" after the patch because people arn't used to having to do anything at all on kick returns to get 35-40 yards
Id much rather have it hard like it is now and return 4-5 over the span of a bunch of games(which is what Ive done).............compared to the past where I could return one every other game.
Hated having to make my own rules to only do 1 user return a game
I really dont trust EA to not overcorrect.

That is fine for the user as I have taken some kickoffs back, but it doesn't really help the CPU take one back against me.This is one of the things I hope doesn't become "Easy Street" after the patch because people arn't used to having to do anything at all on kick returns to get 35-40 yards

Re: Is there a point to returning kickoffs?
My technique is similar to this one. I go outside, generally to the left, then go inside and usually break it back outside. Works for punts and kickoff, I have returned a couple of both.Comment

Re: Is there a point to returning kickoffs?
I have always simmed kick-offs, just because the cpu does not follow its blockers. You will see a big difference based on their KR overall. Players with great speed but low overall won't average much, while players with a higher overall will generally get more yards and sometimes take it to the houseDear EA, I enjoyed NFL Streetz 2

Re: Is there a point to returning kickoffs?
I have this problem too, but since I've only played about 10 games with one team, I wasn't sure if it was the game or just my players. I remember a similar problem with Madden a few years ago. I eventually just started fair catching everything just to avoid fumbles.Comment
