I'm THIS close to snapping this disc in two
I am steaming mad right now, madder than I ever remember being from a video game. I just got swept in a 3 game series each game losing by 1 run. The reason I am so mad is because the first two losses were both because I got screwed by the baserunning controls. And in game 3 I was down 5-2 with 2 outs in the 9th and noone on base and I mounted a rally to send it to extras. Well the CPU has the bases loaded with one out and I get them to hit a perfect double play ball but OF COURSE when it's time for the SS to turn it he just stands there holding the ball and the winning run scores. Sorry, I just had to get this rant out. As fun as this game is, the baserunning controls and glitches are making me mental.Last edited by Maxflier; 08-05-2010, 06:39 PM.Tags: None -

I feel your pain man.
Just take some time off and relax and repeat this to yourself "It's just a game". -

We've all been there before, you don't know how many times I've threatened to trade it in but never end up pulling the trigger. Just take a break, do something else and come back in a couple of hours.Favorite teams:

Re: I'm THIS close to snapping this disc in two
Yea I had something similar to this happen to me, was a tie game, I was playing my RTTS. CPU at 3rd, me at 1st and a line drive down the alley I come around 2nd heading to 3rd, get to 3rd than my character just stops, I try to figure out why and than I realize the CPU is just standing there with his hands in his pockets. I get tagged out at 2nd trying to go back and game is over in the bottom half.Comment

Re: I'm THIS close to snapping this disc in two
LOL, well I wouldn't have to worry about the baserunning as I let the computer do that.. well except for their stupidity of running from first to 3rd on a hard liner to shallow outfield
Haven't seen them do that as much now.. thank god. I think the past patch kinda fixed that.

Re: I'm THIS close to snapping this disc in two
I've had this happen in my season a few times. I play manual fielding. the thing is (in my situation) it was user error tied to the throwing meter. I let off on the circle button (throwing to 1st base) to late on the transition, instead of "preloading it" and letting it go as soon as the ss recieved the ball, and it resulted in the branch not following through (SS holding onto the ball).I am steaming mad right now, madder than I ever remember being from a video game. Since I figured this out and now preload, or stay ahead of the play so-to-speak, it hasn't happened since.

Preloading your throw is key for turning two and the system is not very forgiving if you are a little late with the exchange and pressing the button.I am steaming mad right now, madder than I ever remember being from a video game. As far as bas running goes the system is pretty simple once you get the hang of it and it appears to work as designed, imo.“The saddest part of life is when someone who gave you your best memories becomes a memory”Comment

I've seen multiple threads about the difficulty of the baserunning controls over the last couple years, but I kind of like it. If you have multiple baserunners and want to take extra bases, I think the key is early recognition. If I have a guy on 1st or 2nd and I hit a gapper, I'm already sending that guy to 3rd or home before my batter has even gotten completely out of the box.

Re: I'm THIS close to snapping this disc in two
Well I use classic baserunning and remembering what combos to press off the top of your head can be tough sometimes when you are on the spot. To give you an example of the problems I have:
I have a runner on and get a base hit or whatever and put in the combo to send the guy home, well as he rounds third I realize he is going to be meat at the plate so I need to send him back to third. I assume the correct sequence would be 0 + left on the D-pad, but the runner just keeps right on going. I don't even know if that is what I am supposed to press, the instructions (both the manual and in-game) aren't exactly a big help. I have had times like that where I have panicked and just used R1 and ended up with 2 guys standing on third and another on his way to third and got tripled played and thus crushed a rally.
The baserunning controls are just more complicated than they need to be, the controls for old games like Ken Griffey Jr Baseball were simple and worked just fine, why can't we have the option for that?Last edited by Maxflier; 08-06-2010, 01:48 PM.Comment

Did you try the default base running? It is a lot easier to take command in those situations.Well I use classic baserunning and remembering what combos to press off the top of your head can be tough sometimes when you are on the spot. To give you an example of the problems I have:

I assume the correct sequence would be 0 + left on the D-pad, but the runner just keeps right on going.
Using R1 and L1 to advance all works well most of the time but I have ended up in triple plays before from using that in conjunction with the classic controls.
