Tonight's Marlins/Phillies game, a ball down the 3rd base line that should have been called fair and given the Marlins the win is called foul by ump Bob Davidson, and the Marlins eventually lost in extra innings.
I know for a fact that these aren't the only instances where bad calls have cost teams. What if calls like these happen and impact the winner of the World Series?
I just don't understand how MLB can be so far behind on this issue when so many other sports have surpassed it. Enough of the excuses about replay slowing down the game already. If a correct call needs to be made, it shouldn't matter how long it takes. I know I might be preaching to the choir on this one, but it just baffles me how MLB and in particular Bud Selig continue to be so hard up in their stance on replay.
Replay should be expanded to fair/foul calls and out/safe calls, but not balls/strikes. That is one area where I'm willing to go because it's more of a judgement, but the other areas should be reviewed.
