Be A Pro question (pet peeve)

I had NHL 09 and loved it. I was excited for NHL 10 but money was an issue last year and wasn't able to pick it up.

I'm huge BAP fan, but there was one thing that annoyed me; your line started every period, no matter which line you were on. Did they fix this for '10? 11?

To me, this totally destroyed the sense of accomplishment when you broke the first line, not to mention your team not having its best players on the ice as much as possible.

The first kind is wrong. The second is superfluous.

I get what you're saying, but quite often one of the teams in real life will start the period with a line other than their top line in order to match up defensively. So while your own line starting every period feels a bit off, it's not horrible in terms of game strategy.

I didn't play much BAP in 10, so I'm not 100% sure, but I think it was the same last year.

This wasn't addressed in NHL10, and it's been a bit of a pet peeve of mine as well. I hope they looked at it for NHL11.

You do start in 10. Not a huge deal, as mentioned this does happen from time to time for match-ups. It would be cool to switch it up though when the coach sets his starters based on who he thinks you'll be facing on the other team.

          .
It is if I'm in on the opening faceoff of every game when I'm on the 2nd checking line... which ends up playing a greater portion of the game than the top scoring line, thus my very presence on the team makes them worse.

My problem with Be A Pro is that your player is treated differently than every other player. It just doesn't feel organic. The sim engine shouldn't know who my player is, and treat me like it would treat anyone else.

              Exactly, well said.

Also annoying in BAP when you pass it someone and they pass it right back when you're surrounded by 2 other players... though I've played player lock in the demo and this seems much improved.

Oh no, they didnt' fix it at all. On a 3rd line with the Sens, I was averaging around 28 minutes a game as a center while Jason Spezza had a tough time getting more than 15.

Your line started every period, was sent on every time you got your fatigue in the green and you were playing double shift if a guy on the PK or PP at the same position than you was out in the box.

One of my friend decided to play goalie in BaP offline since it was the only position where it's normal to stay on the ice all game long. It makes sense, as long you don't end up stealing the #1 spot to an establish keeper in the league (let's say guys like Ryan Miller, Martin Brodeur, Miikka Kipprussof, etc).

To had with this annoying thing, my biggest grief of the BaP mode was the fact that if I wasn't getting on the scoreboard, there was not much scoring on my side. First year, I ended up with 107 points, while Daniel Alfredsson had 56. Not to mention that Spezza had 29!

Other thing that wasn't working, line changes. I was going to the bench, my linemates would stay there another 2 minutes, so I had to go on the ice again, dumped the puck and call for a line change to get them off the ice.

I'm a hockey lover, I really like NHL 10, but these thing, added to the fact that the CPU AI on defense was pretty bad, that the offensive AI was passing the puck all over without shooting, made the modes a bit less enjoyable to me.

Ok I just finished playing my 1st season on BAP mode and was bounced out in the 3rd round to the eventual Calder Cup Champ,Providence. Not a problem. Had a real good season so was called up to play with Philly. My question is how do they do the salary? I'm guessing I get base salary whatever that is. When do I get to negotiate another contract? I'm already looking forward. My preference though would be to get traded though as I can't stand Philly especially because I'm a Bruins fan. Best to take the good with the bad I guess.

Congrats on the season. Hope you had a call up at some point at least and didn't spend the entire year in the AHL?

My guess on the contract is that the rookie starts with the traditional 3 year entry level. Not sure what the money would be as they don't ask that off the bat. So, that would mean you negotiate after season 3.

Tense at the trade deadline, isn't it???
