Without Boosting, How do you Create Another Pipeline State?

    Anyone?

I've recruited multiple guys from one state before, but is there a magic number you have to recruit?

Also - Since I'm using Virginia Tech, and by default they have only 2 pipeline states (NC and VA). I always see this funky icon which will randomly appear next to/behind the player's avatar. I understand the 2x icon doubles pts on your pitches, but when I see this "other icon" I never see any kind of increase.

You have to have a certain number of players from the state on your roster. I think it is three, but I could be wrong on that. It isn't very many though.

Im pretty sure it is 4. I currently have 3 from one state on my roster but no pipeline.

Easiest way to do it, if you have scholarships/room on your roster, is to recruit 1 star guys just to open the pipeline.

          100.0% sure that it's 4 people for a pipeline.

The other icon you're seeing is likely an open padlock. This means that this recruit has had 3 pitches uncovered.

I've never done this, but I'm always on the hunt. Just remember that these guys might transfer out of your program later in their career. If they do, they might cause a loss of the pipeline. Don't know if this is true, but it's worth a look.

Yes you'll lose your pipeline if your 4th guy from a state transfers. Tate Forcier transferred away from my team in my OD and he took my California pipeline with him.

I should have clarified. Easiest way to do it if you are like me and coaching a 2 star prestige school. I would imagine if you are in a BCS conference you would probably be stooping if you went 3 star.

That's all that means? Why is it significant to show that icon?

                  Good advice.

The padlock opened icon shows you when you have 3 unlocked pitches with a recruit that you didn't ask about or pitch yourself. It allows you to see the recruit's interest level in that pitch.

yup. its 4 guys. I opened up a pipeline to Texas in my San Jose St. dynasty. Got 4 guys (i believe most were 2 stars) and then added a bunch of better players the following year. I think I'm up to 8 or 9 texans, so the pipeline should be safe for a while.

I'll also have a Florida pipeline next season, in addition to returning to 4 star status (lost my last 4 games in year 4 to finish 7-6 and fell back to 3*. Really sucked the wind out of me).

I think Ohio might be my next target. I could probably get Hawaii, as it seems like 2 or 3 guys have me in the top 3 every year, but i don't see the point.

My response probably wasn't very clear. The padlock doesn't show up when you have asked the recruit about 3 pitches (if that's what you meant). When it shows up it means that 3 of the recruit's unknown pitches are uncovered for free. The significance of it is that you don't have to ask him if he likes those pitches because you're told for free.

The key is to track your pipeline states by the number of players and their eligibility year, so you don't have too many at once, then suddenly, not enough. A constant stream of talent is better than a logjam of guys who will all graduate together.

Opening a new pipeline state is huge for a small, developing school. I'm using UAB and I already have Alabama and Georgia as pipeline states but I'm working on Texas and Florida. It's crucial to have a good pipeline state otherwise you will never be able to recruit very well.

Is there a maximum number of pipeline states you can have?

I'm pretty sure that the only maximum is 70 (players on your team) / 4 (number required for a pipeline). Of course that'll be very difficult to approach, but 6 or so is easily attainable (if you have 6 states you care about). As Michigan, I try to make sure that I have Michigan, Ohio, California, Texas, and Florida. Anything else is gravy and if I see that I have 3 guys (particularly young guys) from a certain state, I'll see if there's anyone I care about from that state to establish it as a pipeline.
