Hawaii debuts pistol/run & shoot offense
Hawaii exclusively ran a pistol formation with a run & shoot offense tonight! This offense put up 588 yards and 36 points against USC!!! This was really exciting to watch, and it added running strength and unpredictability to the run & shoot. I hope to see this playbook in next year's game! The running threat added to the motion and option routes of the run & shoot would be so much fun to use in the game.NCAA: HAWAII WARRIORS!!!

Re: Hawaii debuts pistol/run & shoot offense
really felt for hawaii after that cheap shot on their quarterback. maybe usc should have played some real defense ***tackling*** instead of trying to take heads off. for a team with as much talent as they have usc looked really slow on defense especially in the secondary with hawaii throwing 60 yard bombs with a third string qb. hats off to hawaii!Comment

Re: Hawaii debuts pistol/run & shoot offense
I'm an SC fan and I was actually rooting for Hawaii to come back and make it a close game... but it always seemed just out of reach. Too much offense for both teams, not enough defense. Well, they don't play in the SEC!!Comment

Re: Hawaii debuts pistol/run & shoot offense
The refs blew a TD call right before the half. If that call was changed to a TD, then it would've been a different game going into the half. Our defense was the worst I've seen in a while.

Re: Hawaii debuts pistol/run & shoot offense
What? They had a QB until USC cheap shot the startin QB with a forearm to the head, the coaches told ESPN before the game they think the Hawaii QB could be the best they've ever had, that's pretty impressive with the QBs they've had in the past Timmy Chang, Colt Brennan. I know it's the system but the Warriors are gonna give people fits this year and could do some damage in the WAC. I don't get to watch too much west coast games but I stayed up till 2am to watch this game. USC didn't impress me I see them losing 2 games maybe more. Monte Kiffin running the Tampa 2 is gonna get ate up with better talented teams than Hawaii. I admit I'm biased cause the coach there F'ed up my team, but I'm for anyone who plays Lane Kiffin and USC. One thing I can say positive for USC is I like what they have done with the kid that had some type of retina cancer and he went blind, but that's something Pete Carroll did and that douchebag of a coach LK is still using for good publicity, he knows what he's doing, anyways I'm done with my little rant. Go Vols!Comment

Re: Hawaii debuts pistol/run & shoot offense
Yeah, I watched a good part of this game last night and Hawaii looked real good in that Pistol/run & shoot style offense. I like their QB and that hit by USC was a little suspect.
If Hawaii can stop anyone on defense, they have a chance to have a good season.Currently Playing:

Re: Hawaii debuts pistol/run & shoot offense
Don't people always say that about Hawaii every year ?????? If they can stop somebody on defense ? Hawaii has always had a good scoring offense, their defense is what has always been lacking.Comment

seems like that's what people are gonna be saying about USC this year too :oComment

Re: Hawaii debuts pistol/run & shoot offense
Hey bro I think your right all offense and no defense. BTW UCLA is now my second favorite team, never had one before.
Anyone that hates USC as much as Tennessee fans I'm all aboard, hopefully y'all and the rest of the PAC can hurry up and run all those clowns from LA.Comment

Re: Hawaii debuts pistol/run & shoot offense
Portland State actually used the Pistol look first in their R&S offense while Mouse Davis was there between '07-'09. They didn't use it as much as Hawaii did last night, though.
It's no coincidence that he's in Hawaii now and they've since added that new wrinkle. I personally like the idea and it's just another small tweak to the evolution of the offense. (waiting to see if JJ and SMU use some of this formation too)
Hawaii's offense looked good but their defense was awful. USC could've scored at will, and they basically did after anytime UH would make a big play to score or get some momentum.
Still, the Run-and-Shoot is far from dead. Moniz looked really good before being blasted on that scramble.XBL GT: SoulAssassin925Comment

Re: Hawaii debuts pistol/run & shoot offense
Yeah, Moniz exceeded expectations in every way possible. I really like the pistol run & shoot, and Hawaii used it as a base formation, lining up in it on every play. Again, it would be a great thing to see in the game, as the R&S isn't really known for its running threat, but with a mobile QB like Moniz, it can be more dangerous than ever before. I hope he's okay.NCAA: HAWAII WARRIORS!!!

Re: Hawaii debuts pistol/run & shoot offense
What an exciting game this was. I think switching to a pistol style back field definatley helps in the red zone, something most pass first teams have always had trouble with. I think we all learned two things about that game 1) Hawaii would be extremely dangerous if the defensive side of the ball wasn't ignored 2) SC's Barkley looked so good, the scary thought is that he's not even the second best QB in his conference.
