Will NBA 2k become the next Madden?
With years of weak competition (last few years), no competition (this year), and likely weak or no competition for the next few years, is anyone else scared the NBA 2K series is going to become complacent like the Madden series did for years until it doesn't even resemble the greatness of its former self? Because I'm terrified of this. It seemed to me that the competition and banter from the new EA "Elite" basketball series inspired 2k to go above and beyond with 2k11, to the point they won before the game even started so to speak. Sure 2K wouldn't have done anything (except for making a great game) to bring this on itself like EA did with buying exclusive NFL license for Madden, but it still could mean bad things. No, because 2K should still be scared about what EA will be able to create with Elite being delayed until the end of march. People should be expecting a whole new ball gameComment

I hope they are, but scared? Really? After the past few months I don't think anyone in competition with EA basketball is going to be scared of anything.Comment

well...2k already has an amazing game...so quite honestly, there's not a whole lot they can do to improve it anyway, other than adding new modes. the gameplay is already solid, so unless they completely scrap everything for a new engine, I don't see how 2k basketball could become a bad game...even if they left the game alone for 2 years and didn't improve it at all, it would still be a good game because it would play just like 2k11 (which is already great.)
to be honest, I don't really know what more they can add to the gameplay at this point. They've pretty much worked out all the problems and everything from control to movement is great...maybe AI could see some slight improvement, but that would be a minor thing.
by creating such a good game, they have kind of created a problem for themselves...because how do they really improve from here? can they really improve the game next year so much that it will make you feel like you need to buy it? probably not.Comment

Re: Will NBA 2k become the next Madden?
EA took a decent product off of the shelf. Case closed. Not because of the game but due to a marketing strategy.
2k Sports basketball put Delete 11 in a situation where they needed to take their product off of the shelf. The games, community, and finanial dollars have spoken. All of this when NBA Live for years was the household name mainly with the backing of EA Sports/Madden's name.
In the future I think the NBA franchise has set a base that will allow them to now strive to be the best sports game across the board. They have won the battle of basketball after 10 years. I'm not going to worry about complacency because the game is good already, and their buisness model this whole time has been sim basketball. If they don't fix what ain't broke, then we should have nothing to worry about.Comment

I'd agree; I think 2K's approach is far different to EA's in terms of being content. I think regardless of whether there was Elite, Live, NBA the Show, or whatever, 2K was going to make the effort they made with 2K11 regardless. As they've done in previous years. Although I do think it's somewhat natural to want to take your foot off the accelerator so to speak if you're not being pushed. But I severely doubt they'd sink to what Tiburon has done with Madden this generationHBO's "The Wire" should rank as one of the top 10 shows EVER on tv - period

Scared? when you're good at something the last thing you do is fear the possibility of competition. If anything it should motivate them. I'm assuming this should be the mentality of 2k sports after hearing EA delaying Elite 11. They shouldn't fear anything but at the same time not settle with what they just have out their. I hope they push themselves even higher with NBA 2k.PSN & Xbox 360 - KB24Gold
