PC version v Consoles?

I am really out of touch with PC gaming. I haven't played a game on a PC for over 5 years.

We need to buy a new laptop...so I am considering getting one of those ASUS gaming ones (i.e. pretty fast / nice screen etc).

We just had a baby and live in a small place at the moment...so I am rarely able to play on my PS3 hooked up to the surround sound system anymore.

Next year, we are going to be on the road / moving / overseas quite a bit...

All of this has prompted me to consider the PC version.

Any tips fellas? Is it the same game? Same features?

Can you save mid game? (like you can on the PS3) (Important!)

I know there's rosters out there etc from PC gamers...but I'm not interested in that stuff.

I just basically want to know if it's the exact same game as the consoles?

Oh, one other thing, does it get released at the same time? Didn't 2K used to release their PC versions months later or something?

Any help = thanks :cheers444

Same game.

Patch support is historically pretty bad for pc users. 2K10 pc gamers had to wait months after the console patch.

Have to have a pretty powerful comp. to run it full bore.

Online is even less stable than console versions, borderline unplayable.

Not sure on the release date. If I remember correctly I had to wait an extra couple weeks for steam to make it available.

All this is pretty accurate, but some things to take into account:

1. While the PC patch did come out much later than the console versions, and even months after the publicized E.T.A., it also was more stable and fixed issues caused by the final console patch (most notably, the big man 3pt bug).

2. Online was terrible, but according to 2K, online support was one of the things they revolutionized this year. We'll see.

3. No idea on the release date, but there's no indication that PC gamers will get it any later than console gamers. If Steam releases it late, that's Steam's fault.

Thanks fellas:cheers444 And thanks for that thread Rip...that was perfect info.

Yeah, sounds like the graphics are much better on the PC...but patches and supprt kind of sux.

I don't care about online as I don't play.

Going to take a couple of days and think about which one to get. Playing in maxed out resolution on a PC = tempting :)

One more thing that was not mentioned - Mods. The PC mods are very, very good.

With the Mods..........let's say I start an 82 game season (as I will) and I am 20 games into it when some guy releases a killer mod with much improved courts.

Can I add that current mod to the season I am playing?

Or I need to start all over again etc?

That's always put me off mods...they look good, but I just like to get into a season and play it etc.

The patch arrived in late April, I believe, which means that the Xbox and PS3 users had TWO patches come out before ours. This is ONE of the reasons I'm getting it on 360 and PC.

The mods are phenomenal and you get some really awesome ones from nba-2k.com or something (website specifically for PC gamers).

The game looks 10x better on PC than either console and a relatively old PC (mine is custom built, but 1.5 years now) maxes out NBA 2K10 at 2048x1152 with 4AA, all high settings and cost $600. A laptop with an i5/i7 and Radeon 5850 or something will max the crap out of the game since the resolution will be like 1440x900 or something.

GET IT DONE! YOU WON'T REGRET IT.
