    Playing D in My Player

    Hey Guys,

I'm looking for some tips in playing defence in My Player mode.

I'm playing as a 6'4 205lbs SG (my real life stats). I'm pretty good on offence: averaging +10ppg, get lots of +player grades for making good passes and taking good shots.

The one problem I have is on defence. I loose a lot of player grades because I'm constatnly being beat by my man.

    1) When I cover him, he runs around from one side of the court to the other and a lot of the times when I run after him I get blocked out by another player which leaves my man wide open for a shot.

    2) I loose a lot of point for "attempting bad steals", whats the difference between a good steal and a bad steal?

    3) He usually has no problem taking a good shot 1 on 1. I can't seem to block anything.

    4) He has no problem blowing by me 1 on 1 when its just me between him and the basket.

Any help regarding the points above or about My Player D in general would be great. Cheers.

    What is your defensive ratings?
    • Stealing
    • Defense Awareness
    • On Ball D
    • Quickness
    • Speed

All of these can play a part in your defense problems.

I noticed the higher my steal rating went the less I got called for bad steal attempts and I was going for the steals with the same frequency as before.

They're all pretty low considering I'm 43 overall right now. I did bump up my steals rating with the last points I earned. I guess I just gotta keep playing and earning points to up my defensive attributes.

Yea...thats the beauty of 2K11, it keeps it real. You cant lock up without the right abilities. Keep playing and look out for some J's that will help increase some of your D points. Good luck.

I have this problem too. Evan Turner dropped 36 points on me in my first Draft Combine game. I think I was playing him too tight as I couldnt keep up with him.

I played off of him a bit and did better my second game. I dont think my dude has the skills to play man up yet.

Keep him in front of you and take a step back when he doesnt have the ball so you can take angles when he cuts through. It might help you, its helped me somewhat.

Yeah, this game is all about mometum and angles. If you try to smother your offensive assignment and dont have the lateral quickness and on-ball D attributes to do it, you're gonna have a hard time staying infront of him. Force your cover to take jumpshots and try to funnel him towards help D. Also, when your cover puts pressure on you trying to get to the basket, try to backtrack in a straight line, never on an angle. Its better to leave too much room for an open J and then close out (the closing out animations are great this year) rather than crowding and getting blown by for a high percentage inside shot/dunk/layup. Loving the depth of the gameplay in the my player mode this year!

I just had a game where I shut down Wesley Johnson...I played off of him so he couldn't take it to the hole. Timed my "block" so it would throw him off. He had 10 points but shot 21% from the field.
It was also my first A+ game.

Then I got drafted by OKC so I'm never going to see the floor.

They'll play you out of position, I thought the same when I got drafted by the Grizzlies. Not exactly the same situation but Rudy just got a huge pay day so I thought I would get 12-16 minutes a game or so. They just slid me over to the PF position or C position. 2k really needs to fix that for next years MyPlayer. I might be one of few people who would not be mad if for there rookie season they actually didn't play much in favor of the star players that are already there.
