    Lan's Boston Bruins

The 2010-2011 Boston Bruins head into the season on the heels of yet another disappointing finish to a season, one which is starting to feel like an all too familiar trend. In 2008-2009 we saw the B's bounced from the playoffs by an unlikely hero in Scott Walker. In 2009-2010 we saw a young goaltender upstage arguably the best goaltender in the league, only to be eliminated in the quarterfinals in one of the most **** collapses in hockey history.

The 2010-2011 Bruins, unfortunately, seem to have more question marks than answers heading into the new campaign. Can this team score? At many points last season we saw an offense that disappeared for games at a time, and not much has changed. The team's playmaker in Marc Savard has struggled with post-concussion symptoms, and it remains to be seen whether he even suits up in the 2010-2011 campaign. Marco Sturm continues his recovery from yet another knee injury. Can Michael Ryder bounce back from a terrible 09-10 campaign?

There is, however, a small light at the end of the tunnel, with the arrival of rookie Tyler Seguin taken #2 overall in the draft courtesy of the Phil Kessel trade. Seguin looks ready to step in immediately and contribute. How much remains to be seen.

Bruins Off on the Wrong Foot

Prague (AP) - Things really could not have gotten off to a worse start for the Bruins here in Prague. A loss on opening night obviously stings, but it would only be minor compared to the loss sustained not even a minute into the game. Bruins winger Nathan Horton, who was acquired in the offseason along with Greg Campbell for Dennis Wideman, collapsed in a a heap after getting drilled in the leg by an Ed Jovanoski point shot. Things did not look good for Horton was he was unable to get off the ice under his own power. X-rays later revealed a broken leg. The injury is expected to keep the winger out for at least a month.

The Bruins, as a result, will already have to shuffle their already mixed and matches lines. Blake Wheeler will move up to the Krejci line with Milan Lucic, while the Bruins will dress Daniel Paille, who was previously scratched to begin the season, and place him in Wheeler's spot on the Seguin line with Ryder.

The B's will face off tomorrow in the second game of a back to back here in Prague against the Coyotes. Tim Thomas is expected to be between the pipes.

I feel like we have enough about us to sit tight for now. As I mentioned, I moved Ryder up to the Krejci line, reuniting the old Wheeler-Krejci-Ryder line. Ideally, I'd like that to be my second line, but we'll make do.

I am looking for trade partners to get rid of Ryder, Sturm, or Savard, but the injuries have nothing to do with that. That's more of a..Ryder is terrible, Sturm has ACL surgery every other year, and Savard is the only one of the three to actually have trade value.

Your team is dropping like flies, and yet you continue to play .500 hockey.

I'd like to point out the details in this are excellent. Despite the loss, solid job of keeping Ovechkin off the board.

                              Recapturing the Magic

The Krejci line featuring Michael Ryder and Blake Wheeler was one of the most efficient units in all of hockey in the 2008-2009 season, with the trio combining to post 70 goals, 101 assists, and a +101. Last season saw a massive drop in production to 53 goals, 70 assists, and a +7. The lines eventually wound up being broken up and shuffled due to injuries/lack of production/the mad genius? of Claude Julien.

The line was set to be pretty much history coming into this season as the initial plans were to have Krejci centering Lucic and Horton, Wheeler and Ryder were to be centered by Seguin. Injuries to Lucic and Horton quickly changed plans.

However, the reunion thus far has been a sweet one, as the line has combined for 10 points in 3 games together. The B's will need continued production from this line throughout the remainder of October and November if the team hopes to keep afloat long enough for the reinforcements of Marc Savard and Marco Sturm to make their way back to the team, as well as Lucic and Horton.

                              Goalie Controversy?

There could be potential controversy brewing in the future for the Bruins goaltending tandem of Rask and Thomas. Last season we saw the rookie take the team, and the league, by storm taking the starting job away from the 2009 Vezina winner. To be fair to Thomas, he was coming off hip surgery that impaired his ability to perform at his peak level. We saw Rask start to lose his edge in the Philadelphia series after showing up Ryan Miller and the Sabres in round 1.

So far this season, Thomas has looked the better of the two turning in 2 solid starts, including a 47 save effort in an overtime defeat at the hands of the Washington Capitals. Most recently, Rask turned in a disappointing performance against an anemic Rangers offense, allowing 5 goals in 2 periods on just 19 shots.

Claude Julien has stood by his young goaltender stating that he wouldn't base any decisions based off of one performance. That sounds fair enough to us, but at what point are the Bruins forced to settle on a #1, if ever? The current game plan appears to be to alternate goaltenders on second nights of back to backs, or when facing the same team in consecutive games. Are we going to start seeing more of a 50/50 split, or will one of the pair emerge to handle a majority of the starts?

                              Bruins Calling on Youth

Injuries to four of the Bruins key offensive players has left the team calling on a trio of rookies to play a much bigger role than what was expected leaving camp. Jordan Caron, the Bruins 2009 1st round pick, finds himself on the Bruins second line with assistant captains Patrice Bergeron and Mark Recchi. Tyler Seguin, the #2 overall pick acquired from Toronto in the Kessel trade, who was originally expected to play on the wing with Bergeron and Recchi finds himself centering a line with Daniel Paille and fellow rookie Brad Marchand. The trio have proven their worth thus far turning in a combined 2 goals and 7 assists, with Seguin leading the rookies in points with 1 goal, and 3 assists.

                              Trade Rumors Swirling About Savard

There have been several rumors whirling about regarding Bruins center man Marc Savard. Savard, originally expected to be good to go coming into training camp after returning from a concussion in the Flyers series last year, has been sidelined with post-concussion syndrome. Nevertheless the offers have continued to come in, but as of yet the Bruins have not found the right one. It remains to be seen when, or even if, he goes.
