need schemes to tighten up my 3-4 D
Was wondering if anyone has ideas on tightning up my 3-4 scheme? I wouuld prefer to here from a good steelers player or another strong 3-4 team, my games seem to be high scoring. I want to work on blitzing packages and decent zone plays.

I use the Jets D. 1-5-5 is nice, I like the 4-6 Speed package too. For coverage I try and stay in man because zone seems broken, if I don't get pressure quick I end up getting burned in zone.Magnificent Bastards - Second to None

Okay that might be the problem I go to zone blitz a lot and they get ridiculous passes off and it pisses me off but I do try man but don't hardly blitz with itEric Berry is a BEAST!!Comment

Re: need schemes to tighten up my 3-4 D
The Zone Blitz is great, but it is really only effective against the short pass. Like the Cover Two, IIRC it was a direct response to the original West Coast offense, back when it was still in Cleveland, which substitutes the short pass for the run. That is why the CBs stay up and play effective against passes to the flat and why D Lineman can drop back and cover.
It is pretty ineffective against offenses that run traditionally deeper routes AND (this is the important part) when your linebackers don't get to the QB.
If you can get the pressure, it forces the QB to take the sack, or throw it to the outlet receiver, usually a RB out of the backfield or a shallow tightend or the hot read receiver, which, if everything goes correctly, is right where your dropping lineman will be to make a play.
You have to have the correct match ups. You want to make sure your best pass rushing linebacker (good block shedding, good power/finesse moves) is going up against the poorest pass blocker on the opposing line.
Personally, I enjoy playing with the 49er defense. It isn't authentic to the real thing because Madden D just isn't capable of that, but it is a solid 3-4 and has the 3-3-5 which has some really nice blitzes out of it.Comment
