Word of Warning About Forthcoming Roster Update

I talked about this in the 'When is the Opening Day roster coming out?' thread..

A word of warning. There will be mistakes, don't assume it will be perfect. A update of this magnitude will have a few errors. Don't chastise EA because of this. Realize that: A) we don't know what else they're working on, be it patches, NHL '12, etc.. B) we, as fans and outsiders don't know everything that goes into updating the rosters (sure Andy Agostini had that video posted explaining the waivers and such, but I'm sure there's more to it than just that).

That being said, what we can do as a community of passionate, dedicated NHL gamers is spot errors and make others aware of these and provide a fix (i.e players on wrong teams, wrong position, handedness, equipment, etc..). Possibly even have a few people pick an NHL team and it's AHL affiliate (other leagues could be done to, over time), go through them to make sure they are correct and fix any mistake, then post them on a thread created in the Roster forum. Just a suggestion.

Can't wait for the roster update, happy gaming everybody.

Or they could have just given us the ability to share rosters, like every other sports game ever made does. Then the people who really care about accurate rosters wouldn't complain about how terrible the official EA rosters will be.

my guess is that they'll keep their focus at the official EA forums, so i'd suggest posting information there. RedShirt is great about gameplay stuff here at the OS forums, but the roster stuff seems to fall on deaf ears here.

Well said. I'll gladly run through the Devils roster when the update is out. I'll check equipment to the best of my ability, numbers, etc. and post a thread in the rosters subforum.

For all you know your request could be violating there licensing contract. Whining about it won't make it appear.

The flipside is that for all you know - it does not.

Certainly a possibility...both ends of the spectrum. It's definitely a feature we'd all enjoy. But usually if it is not there there could be a reason for it. As i remember the MLB The Show guys have to fight to get roster and player editing in their game. Also the league will not allow them to have a custon league option...which sucks big time for old rosters created.

Replaying old seasons would be an amazing feature in NHL as well. I'd love to be able to have a roster of guys from the late 80's early 90's to replay a playoffs or season....oh what fun that would be for sure!

I often wonder whether posts like this don't actually accomplish exactly what they're attempting to caution against...
I applaud the sentiment but it encourages people who are looking to start trouble.

I absolutely agree. Imo, any post is an encouragement to people who want to start trouble. In fact, I would argue that in any public setting, opening your mouth (keyboard?) is an invitation for someone to oppose your position.

I'm sure there is, my only question is whether it's licensing or EA greed. If they don't allow us to share rosters, then we are forced to use the online tool. Can't access the online tool unless you buy a new copy or pay the 9.99 for online access.

It just so happens to coincide so perfectly that I question it's lack of corporate greed. I don't blame EA Canada or it's developers, this would come from up high.

I'd love that, but that *IS* a likeness rights issue. I really wish EA would establish a fund or something to get the rights for these ex-players.

I would happily cross refrence the WHL. This is the reason I am waiting for the roster update. I haven't started a whl season because junior roster changes can be so huge.

Ya know what, I would love to make a post on EA's NHL forums about the roster mistakes they made in this update...but I can't, because the forum comes up with every error in the book to keep me from making posts. I'm not joking about this either...I'm not sure if it's something wrong with my computer/profile, but every time I've ever tried to post on the NHL forums, I've gotten a script error that has kept me from posting.

If someone wouldn't mind copy/pasting a post from me onto the EA NHL forums, then I'll gladly do a correction for the Nashville Predators/Milwaukee Admirals and Tampa Bay Lightning/Norfolk Admirals.

You're not alone dude. I have an EA account and their forums have been messed up for about two weeks now. That's why I just created an account over here..

I was ready to get in front and taking shots for EA about that matter. This morning though, from what I can read (read post about missing and corrections) EA as made a terrible job.

Incorect goalies equipment and wrong ratings, I can live with that. But incomplete roster after they made roster sharing impossible is simply unnaceptable.

There's thing in life you can defend, and so far, that roster update is not coming short by inches, but by a mile.
