Head Coaches
Do you think that Head Coaches should have an impact on Gameplay? With boosts or something along those lines?Because I live in van down by the river...Tags: None -
Re: Head Coaches
Besides the attribute boost in franchise mode? No. I wish there was a better point to having a good head coach compared to a bad one. Maybe for online play. Penalties or something.Because I live in van down by the river...Comment

Re: Head Coaches
One of the illogical choices EA made was to give all the meaningful ratings boosts to retired players in later franchise years instead of to the real HC's in the game. IRL will ANYONE EVER give Randy Moss a coaching job? Course not, but in Madden when he retires, IF he hits the coaching pool (there seems to be some arbitrariness as to who hits the pool upon retirement) he carries +5 in receiving SPD, AGI, and AWR or some similar attributes, don't recall exactly. But signing him as a coach provide HUGE upgrades to your WR's.Comment

Re: Head Coaches
I question the importance of those "huge upgrades." I have signed defensive and offensive coordinators to get 'boosts" and my players have not changed in ability. I also question player ratings; for example, HB rated Carry 90 fumbles like a guy rated 65. La'Ron McClain fumbled twice within 5 carries--and couldn't even gain a yard! One of the illogical choices EA made was to give all the meaningful ratings boosts to retired players in later franchise years instead of to the real HC's in the game. As far as I'm concerned, points should not be given by hiring any coach or all Coaches should give points, although I honestly don't think getting those points changes anything.Comment

Re: Head Coaches
I went and controlled all 32 teams. I went and fired all the good ones to sign to my team to see what would happen, i was worse on defense and offense was not that better so it makes no point on who you sign thats why i saved the money and sign no bumsComment

Re: Head Coaches
Coaches make a huge difference in the NFL, but not enough of one in Madden. Part of the problem is that every player is always going 100% in Madden. Randy Moss and Peyton Manning have the same work ethic. We don't see players bounce from team to team until they find the right system or a coach who can push them or whatever. QBs don't have an impact on the work habits and development of their receivers.
I'd much rather see a system in which players' abilities depended heavily on motivation. Part of the challenge of building a team is finding hard workers and good leaders. If things like chemistry, leadership, effort, and morale mattered more, Madden would be a lot more fun and challenging for me.Comment

Re: Head Coaches
I definately think coaches should have a much higher impact on gameplay. And not just head coaches, but coordinators as well. I seem to remember that the PS2 versions had a much better system for coaches, but coud still use some improvements. Coaches all had ratings back then and I think they should all be brought back because as it is now only a minimal amount of coaches offer any ratings boosts, and therefore all the coaches that dont come with boosts are essentially generic ( Whats the diffirence between hiring Jeff Fischer or Marvin Lewis if neither offer any ratings boost?). I think ratings for motivation and discipline that offer ratings boost in big games or affect penalties would be a good start. I'm sure there are other ratings that can be added as well, but I just cant think of any right now.
As far as coordinators are concerned there are a lot more options to make them meaningful. First off, in the signing screen I'd like to see where all their previous teams ranked statistically in all the major categories (Total Offense, Pass Offense, Rush O, Total D, Pass D, Rush D, Sacks, Ints...) That way, if I fire my D Coordinator because my team ranked 30th in the league in D, I dont end up hiring a D Coordinator who was fired because his team ranked 32nd. Also, (and I know this wont be for everyone, so maybe it should be optional) I think when you hire a coordinator you should only be allowed to use his playbook. That way you have to be paticular about who you hire and make sure his system fits with your personel. With Gameflow (which I never use as it is now) it might be interresting if the plays that are called in are affected by the coordinators strategy or football knowledge rating.
One way or another, they need to find a way to make coaches significant and make the signing interface deeper and more streamlined.Comment

Re: Head Coaches
And its so frustrating that Head Coach had all these details in it, but Madden does not. Hopefully Madden 12 has every single thing Head Coach had plus more, if not, thats a let down.Coaches make a huge difference in the NFL, but not enough of one in Madden. Yup, coaches are eye candy. I have seen ZERO gains from them. Afterall, I won the S.B. with Tom Cable...
