    My Player Off Ball Movement

    Hello All,

I have just begun a "my player career" as a point guard. As you all know by now the game does not automatically call plays for you, and when I do unlock the ability to call my own plays I dont want to rely on that.

The problem is, how do I properly move around without the ball. When I try to move around "off ball" things seem to get really cluttered and it doesnt flow well. I dont know when stay put, set off ball picks, cut to the basket, etc.

So my question to you guys is: how do I properly move around when a teammate has the ball instead of me? I want to be able to run around to create my own shots, and create shots for other teammates. Thanks in advance.

i thought you could always call plays at PG? anyway i dont really know, as a SG i usually just run around and set picks and stuff but I know exactly what youre saying.

It helps if you hit LB to call for a pick even when you dont have the ball, that can get things moving.

Personally I just try to just set screens for ball handlers, try to set quick screens on any defender that is nearby and moving or just try to run around looking for open space.

I don't think you can until you reach Summer League. Perhaps the first NBA game, not sure which.

I play point guard and its pretty much the same story for me, there are a good number of turnovers because my teammates won't spread out how they should at all, they get cluttered with the defense all the time. I'm still in the Blue-Gray games right now.

Thanks guys. I appreciate all of your responses.

However, my question is more asking about basketball theory rather than about controls. I understand that I need to set picks, call for picks, and etc. I just dont understand when and where to do so?

For example, when should I cut to the basket vs setting a pick for a teammate? Or, when should I call for a pick; and where should I run to? These are the things I'm unsure about. I hope this is understandable.

dude i have no idea. seriously the best advice is to set/call picks and then run to space in a freeflow halfcourt game. I dont know really anything about the x's and o's I never played even HS ball. Maybe you should get a book or something?

I suggest taking a look at your teams playbooks and getting a general idea of what your player does on most plays, that along with just common sense and spacing seems to work well for me... I have a PF with the Wizards and typically on most plays the PF starts in one of 2 places when a play starts, when the offense starts up in the half court I make sure that I am in one of those 2 places and then set back screens or space out properly from there.
As a PG you should be able to call plays when you like however.
