Re: Question about HDTV 1080p vs 720p
No. I have a 42" 720p and I can't tell the difference between it and my brothers 50" 1080p in the other room(same line of Panasonic plasmas). The general rule I have heard is 50" and under you can't tell the difference when sitting a normal amount if way. Some people might say 42" for that rule, but 32" is definitely in that category.
If it's a money issue go 720p.Comment

Yeah for a 32 inch screen, you really not going to notice a difference at all despite what people say. Not worth the money at all for 1080p on a tv smaller then 46 inches.Comment

Re: Question about HDTV 1080p vs 720p
You'll notice if you plan on doing any gaming or bluray movie watching. If not, and you're just watching HD TV, then no, there won't be a difference, as television broadcasts only come through in 720p/1080i.Comment

Re: Question about HDTV 1080p vs 720p
At that size, unless you're close enough that your nose can touch the screen (ok, maybe not that close...) then 720p is just fine.
Only reason you'd go 1080p in that size is if you're using it as a monitor and need to ready extremely small print. In this case, the extra resolution MIGHT help.
Obviously, if the price is the same or there is negligible difference then you go 1080pLast edited by GAMEC0CK2002; 11-20-2010, 10:40 AM.Comment

Re: Question about HDTV 1080p vs 720p
This really helped me out a lot as well. We're looking into getting a new TV, but according to the chart, the viewing distance in our living room doesn't even begin to bring the effects of 1080p in with the size of TV I want. I'll save the extra cash and get a nice set of surround sound speakers or something with it.NFL: Green Bay Packers

Most people forget about the sound. That is half the equation. A nice surround system is needed to complete the home theater experience. This really helped me out a lot as well. So true
Sound def. immerses you more than you think
In fact I know some popular tv shows that IMO only make the popular cut because they stir veiwer emotions with the music almost the entire way through the show.Comment

Don't let people tell you here there isn't a difference, I made that mistake and am paying for it. The difference is there, but some people can discern it and some people can't. Likewise, the small differences some people distinguish feel that the upgrade is worth the extra cost of the television, others don't.

there's not a huge difference, I own 2 1080p sets and from 720p to 1080p is BLAH, nothing to get excited about, like I said not a big difference.Don't let people tell you here there isn't a difference, I made that mistake and am paying for it. On a 32" you can't unless you are 2 inches from the screen.Don't let people tell you here there isn't a difference, I made that mistake and am paying for it. And don't go to a store and look at the side-by-side. That is the worst possible thing you can do. Stores don't calibrate TVs right. If there is a HUGE difference in which one TV looks absolutely terrible it's likely the store set it up like that on purpose or just wrong.Comment

Re: Question about HDTV 1080p vs 720p
Psh, even on a 23" monitor that I own I can detect the higher pixel resolution in 1080i vs. 720p, let alone 1080p vs. 720p. And FF, as I said, some people discern a noticeable enough difference that 1080p is worth the extra cost. Besides, HDTV's look awful in stores. They don't calibrate and overboast the contrast. It looks pitiful. On a 32" you can't unless you are 2 inches from the screen.

But the biggest difference might actually not be in comparing 720p vs. 1080p, but HDTV's that are 1080p ready versus those that are not. Simply put, there is an argument that even if you watch 99.9% of 2D material on your television, that 3D-ready HDTV's still might be worth the investment because the specs are better than non-3D-ready HDTV's anyway. Same goes for this other argument. The 1080p-ready HDTV will have better features/specs than the 720p-ready HDTV of the same model anyway, so it will already be a better looking TV even in 720p.
I'm not telling him to buy a 1080p HDTV, I'm telling him to decide whether the visual difference that he himself perceives is worth the price difference he would pay for the upgrade. As for what I perceive, it really does depend on the price difference, but for me it is more than likely worth the upgrade. For some people, they don't even see the difference between SD and HD (or they don't care). Same thing applies here, only it's more negligible.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Question about HDTV 1080p vs 720p
I'm with Blzer on this one.
I know the charts and experts claim that there is no marked difference, but there is a perceptible difference to at least some people. I definitely can see(and prefer) 1080p and 720p.
That's with a 40" monitor from anywhere from 4-15 feet away. Definitely from further away also.

Went from a 32" 720p to a 37" 1080p in my bedroom. The difference in resolution was definitely noticeable. My viewing distance is about 6 1/2 ft.
