anyone still as eager about HUT now as they were on launch?
Just thought I'd contribute the fact that after I put 60 bucks over the first 3 weeks on my wife's mastercard, I haven't touched HUT. In fact, I hate HUT. So what do you say... still lovin it or have you come to your senses lolTags: None -

HUT was fun for a few weeks then after that, I just go back to my usual OTP and occasional offline games.Xbox LIVE GT: oALEXtheGREATo

I loved the idea behind HUT. I hate how it was implemented, and grew tired of it quickly.
I was totally into the idea of unlocking, and gaining points to buy new packs, and player/team attributes and contracts. The idea of building a team this way really appealed to me.
However, it seems like such a money grab by EA in order to have fun or be somewhat competitive.
Its too bad. It really could even be a very fun mode(even offline). As it stands, its just not.Comment

Totally agree with post above. The idea is awesome but the implementation kind of sucks.
Realistically all I can really ever ask for from EA is a solid be a GM mode that has some kind of online interaction. Maybe it's wishful thinking but if we could have a solid OS community come together on the same wavelength, an online be a GM league would be quite fun.My avatar might have a Bruins picture, yes.
But don't get it wrong, Whalers for life!Comment

the whole career and contract thing ruined it for me. too much troube trying to manage all of that. especially after you get a premium player knowing that you only have 60-100 games with him before the card is useless.Comment

Yes I wish they would get rid of the contracts and just keep it a simple card collecting game. I just get tired of the leveling treadmill that seems to be common in games. I just don't have the time for it.Go Sabres!Comment

The contracts are what make it intriguing.. I hate playing against guys which you know that mommy paid for his team where I have 3 solid lines and one junior line.Comment

HUT is good in my opinion. The salary cap is what it is and if people buy the packs with real money so be it. They still have to adhere to the salary cap and all the other rules of the game. If you play defense a lot of these teams that have stacked lines aren't that difficult to play against. They are one trick ponies that just try to dangle their way through the defense and that can be defended. I wish there were leagues with HUT or you could play a friend like they patched into Madden, but the concept and execution of HUT I thought were well done in NHL. There are a few tweaks they can make for NHL12 or a HUT patch such as multiple squads so you don't have to redo your lines all the time, online tournaments functioning correctly so quitters make the other team advance, and matching squads by rating so there isn't so much pre-game quitting. I think the people that complain about HUT are the same people that are always looking to complain about something and finding why EA did something wrong. If I had a business and people were willing to give me real money to buy something they can get with fictional money, I'd let them as well.Comment

Re: anyone still as eager about HUT now as they were on launch?
I love the concept of Ultimate Team and right now I am really enjoying FIFA UT but I haven't played much HUT in the last month or so.
The first reason is that I am not finding playing random people online fun, I understand it's a video game and people can play it as they like but personally I don't enjoy defending what feels like the same moves over and over again, people just deking their way to the net or if they can't just firing off a wind up shot after getting the goalie off balance. Another thing I personally don't like is playing players who only defend with their center in their own zone, if I wanted to play against the AI I would have done.
Two other reasons I don't play as much have been fixed in FIFA UT and I expect will be in NHL 12, firstly allowing you to advance in a tournament when your opponent quits as long as you were winning. Also not letting you see your opponents team overalls until you have agreed to play, FIFA shows you your opponents team on the loading screen. I'm very average at the game but so many people back out against me just because their team isn't as good as mine.
Other things that I would like to see brought over from FIFA UT are the Web App that allows you to manage your team online and the ability to build more than one squad/roster at a time.
I actually think that the Salary Cap and Contracts/Career lengths are a good idea, for me it adds a strategy element that needs users to plan ahead.
One other thing I also wouldn't criticise EA over is that they allow people to spend real money, personally I haven't spent any money but there are people who want to be competitive while only getting to play a few hours a week. I've done ok by playing the market but it's nice to have the option to spend real money should I want.
I know some people will say that its unfair to play against stacked teams that have been bought by Credit Cards while others grind away for every star player that they get but without that option EA wouldn't keep UT. They know their key demographic is kids who will get their parents to spend money to buy them the packs that they want. EA is a business and they make a lot of money from UT, so much so they are now happy for it to be available free rather than a small one off fee. I see nothing wrong with that.Last edited by jb1; 11-22-2010, 04:11 PM.Comment

Re: anyone still as eager about HUT now as they were on launch?
I liked it alot when it was debuted in the demo and have put some of my money in to try and have a decent chance when playing online but I HATE...LOATHE...DESPISE playing Randoms, it is the reason I have stopped playing this mode all together and will not do anything but play offline tourneys.
I am a guy who LOVES playing online leagues and can litterally go the whole year playing ONLY that mode. I messaged and messaged the devs through the online chats, Facebook, comments sections on the blogs and while they never addressed me personally. I was getting the feeling that they didn't think there was a "market" for online leagues(The league setup in the game is GARBAGE!)
I think this there we need to make the push to have the devs put in the Online Be a GM mode because the fact that they haven't improved their online league setup to me is a slap in the face to people like me who only want to play the online Be a GM.
This years mantra for us as fans and game players should be "ONLINE BE A GM OR BUST!!!"Comment

Re: anyone still as eager about HUT now as they were on launch?
I rented this game and have been playing for about a week now. The time I have spent in HUT so far has been a lot of fun. It's very addicting and I could see myself playing in this mode a lot if I bought the game (which I probably will now) but I haven't gotten that deep with it yet.
I am more of an offline gamer so I don't think I would spend that much time with the online tourneys.
For those of u who have played this mode extensively, how would you rate the "replayability", or "longevity" of playing this mode offline? I noticed locked tourneys, etc. for single player mode and "single player matches".
Does it take some time to get through these? Is it challenging and fun? Would I "have to" play online tourneys to unlock certain card packs ("get more pucks"), etc. What is the "ultimate goal" of this mode?
Just curious on your feedback. Thx.Currently Playing- PS4- PES 18
Madden 18
Witcher 3
3DS- Bravely DefaultComment

For online play for whatever reason there are games where your players just don't play to their normal expectations while your opponents team is way faster and on every loose puck. It seems to hit you every once in a while which makes playing online very frustrating cause you have no idea why your guys aren't playing well especially when you have better players.
Offline superstar mode can be very difficult without a goalie with certain balanced ratings or the AI will kill you with shots your goalie "can't see". As long as your goalie has equal ratings in Vision, angles and breakaway they AI will cheat you less when going up against the CPU. If the goalie has a vision rating below his angle rating then you will get killed when the AI needs a goal by shots that you goalie can not see all of a sudden.Comment
