No one is going to be able to sway your mind into picking up one game over another. NFS is an action packed arcade racer while GT5 is nothing like that nor is it aiming for that.

Dull compared to NFS ? Seriously .No Offense but this game graphically blows NFS series out of the water.Game play is a lot different , it is more simulation it is going to take more skill and precision to drive or even drift . I would suggest to rent it first .Specially if it is your first GT game . Good luck .

This is a fun game, but the sense of speed is really lacking compared to NFS.

You gotta understand the NFS series focus; they aim (even with Shift) is to create an exaggerated racing experience. I would say the Gran Turismo series vs the NFS series is comparable to the NBA 2K series vs the NBA Live/Elite series. Both games emulate the same thing (racing and basketball) just with opposite focuses (realism and more skill required vs pick up and play)
According to my old marketing professor, satisfaction is when product performance meets or exceeds consumer expectation.

I typically rent from Blockbuster since it's close, but I'm thinking about getting a Gamefly subscription. It's basically the Netflix of video games.

I haven't played the retail of NFS: Shift, but based on the demo and the little bit of GT5 that I've played thus far, I would say the actually racing is NFS:Shift is better just because the sense of speed is greater and therefore more intense. GT5 is just a way deeper game though. Both games are different enough that they can both coexist in a gamer's library though.

The sense of speed improves dramatically once you get faster cars. In the beginning it's almost painful how slow the game feels. I own a car that's in this game and doing 110 on GT feels like a casual drive down a suburb road in real life. I think that you need a car with great acceleration to really get the sense of speed. A slow car can get to 135, but it'll take forever. A fast car like a Ferrari can rocket from 0-150 in a short period of time, making you feel a better sense of speed.

As for OP, I recommend this game to those who own a ps3 only. If you own a 360, I'd suggest Forza, sadly.

Haven't played Shift, but from the other Need Foe Speed games, I'd say the more apt comparison is between NBA2K (GT5) and NBA Jam (NFS). Other than the first NFS on 3DO, it's an incredibly arcadey series. There's nothing wrong with that, unrealistic stuff can be really fun, but it's really apples and oranges, like comparing 2K to NBA Jam to get your basketball fix.

Bought GT5 yesterday and spent hours playing it last night. Looked up at the clock at it was suddenly 2 a.m. It's a great game, if you like more realistic racing games.

Absolutely recommend it. GT's visuals and on track racing are outstanding. I personally have no interest in games like NFS or other arcady racing games. GT5; real cars, real racing, real driving. Buy.

Get GT5 if you want a proper sim and are willing to spend a lot of time working on your suspension and gear ratios etc. Just don't expect a game that is easy to get into and is quick to progress through. It demands time and dedication. But it's really rewarding.
