Engage eight is waaaaaaayyyy too high for my taste.

It kind of makes sense why the most effective plays are shakes/slants/crosses:

They all beat cover 2 man directly.

The most called offensive play nets negative yardage?! I better not call that one!

Engage 8 lets up the most yards on the list. It is sick that 4 verticles is the second most called play and nets the most yardage on that list.

Engage Eight, Madden 10 CPU's favorite play.

Edit: WOW! HB Lead Dive gains 0 yards.

Gotta think about all that garbage time at the end of a game where that play tends to work on deep zones.

It nets the 4th most yardage btw.

4 Verts is pretty much a guaranteed TD against Engage 8 so that may also bloat both of those numbers. I don't understand why Engage 8 is still in the game. If they can't figure out a way to keep the D from calling it 15 times a game then just take it out. Eliminating that play alone would make playing against the CPU so much more realistic and enjoyable.

Yeah I've been playing against the CPU a lot lately and its starting to grate on me the amount of times that they call Engage 8. I really, really need to buy a second controller so I can rip it out of their gameplans. Although I can't really justify doing so for just this reason.

I never knew why the slot verts scored TDs for me all the time. Thanks engage 8.

                  Kind of silly.

Shouldn't the CPU playcalling mimic its real life counterpart? Wasn't that the hype point for this year with gameplanning?

Gameplanning is only as good as the user makes it.

Why is it surprising that 4 verts is a prevalent call? It is one of the most common plays in 1-back formations with wide split receivers in football. Not to mention that the game does a poor job of carrying vertical routes in the seam area.

Engage Eight is called so much because it's always one of the first plays to pop up in every formation. That needs to change. NFL teams blitz 8 about 0.01% of the time, and when they do, they're probably not playing a soft deep zone with it.

4 verts indeed. The defense doesn't even try to defend it. Any type of coach mode in Madden is an **** fail because of plays like this...or more accurately, because of the pathetic AI the Madden team gave to defenders. Serious simmers will never respect Madden because of gaping AI holes like this. It shows a lack of effort by the development team.

The play averaged a little over 4 yds per attempt and was called 1 1/2% of the time. Look, I know that the deep seam area can be exploited, but I don't think those statistics warrant the kind of response you gave. In the NFL, I'd guess that some sort of all-vertical variation is ran about 5 times per game per team. That's close to 8% of the time. It's a good play, providing a good horizontal stretch against deep zone defenders and it provides match-up problems against underneath man defenders.
