Road to the Super Bowl: A Kansas City Chiefs Dynasty
Well, I've decided to start over again. My last dynasty didn't really work out, and I apologize to my disappointed followers for that. However, I'm going to give it another go. -
Re: Road to the Super Bowl: A Kansas City Chiefs Dynasty
And now, we would like to announce Herm Edwards' replacement as head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs football team. Kyle Montgomery!
Well, what is there to say. As soon as I got the call from team management, I jumped on the offer. There is so much potential for greatness here in Kansas City that I just couldn't turn down the opportunity to take charge. I very well know that the team has suffered mightily as of late, but I am here to fix this. With this year's free agent group, draft class, and with the help of my GM, I hope to return the Chiefs to greatness within the next few years. All I ask is that the fans stick with the team through all of the tough but necessary changes that need to be made to improve the team. Thank you.Last edited by K_Man915; 12-25-2010, 12:46 PM. -
Re: Road to the Super Bowl: A Kansas City Chiefs Dynasty
Well, here we go again. I started off by not franchise tagging anyone and giving my only RFA, RT Will Svitek, a level 2 tender.
After evaluating starting roster, I have decided that my focus points for free agency are the secondary, the linebackers, and the offensive line.Last edited by K_Man915; 12-25-2010, 12:47 PM.Comment

3. I traded HB Kolby Smith to the Lions for a 6th rd. pick (170) and a 7th rd. pick (201).
4. I traded CB Tyron Brackenridge to the Browns for a 6th rd. pick (184) and a 7th rd. pick (216).
5. I released QB Tyler Thigpen.
6. I released TE Michael Allan.
7. I released MLB Nate Harris.
8. I released ROLB Johnny Baldwin.

Re: Road to the Super Bowl: A Kansas City Chiefs Dynasty
Here is my positional analysis for my team right before I start signing free agents:
QB: At this point, I don't have any QBs on my roster and there aren't any decent QBs in fre agency, so it looks like I'm going to be drafting a couple in the draft or making a trade, which is pretty unlikely because it takes to much to acquire a good QB through a trade.
HB: All I have is Larry Johnson, who I don't really like at all, and Jackie Battle, who is pretty mediocre. Once again, not much in free agency, so probably another draft focus.
FB: I don't have any on my roster, so I will probably pick up either Dan Krieder or Tony Richardson in free agency.
WR: I have Dwayne Bowe, who is pretty good, and Jeff Webb, who is ok. So I might try to get some depth during the draft.
TE: I have Tony Gonzalez, who is VERY good, but there are 3 pretty good TEs in the draft, so I may need trade Gonzalez to pick up more high round picks.
OL: Not as bad as I originall thought, but I need some depth. I definitely need a RT, because the only guy I have there is Will Svitek, who is an RFA, and if another team tries to sign him, I will probably let him go because I would get a 2nd rd. pick.Comment

Re: Road to the Super Bowl: A Kansas City Chiefs Dynasty
DL: I'm ok at LE with Tamba Hali, but I need some depth. I also definitely need some depth at DT. At this point I have 2 mediocre, aged DTs and a decent younger guy as well. RE is going to be a major focus point moving forward. I have one guy, but he isn't very good and will probably get cut if I can find some depth somewhere.
LB: I have a solid starter on the left side with Derrick Johnson, but I need help in the middle and on the right. I will try to trade MLB Napoleon Harris and ROLB Donnie Edwards for picks in the draft if I can.
CB: I only have one at this point. However he is a solid guy. He is pretty old though so I don't know how long he will be around.
S: I need a FS for sure. Unfortunately, this is probably the worst position in the upcoming draft, so I will probably get one in free agency. At this point I'm looking at Ken Hamlin. I'm ok at SS for now. I have a decent guy in Bernard Pollard, but if I can get a better guy somewhere I will trade him for picks.
K/P: I don't have a kicker so far, but I will probably be able to find one somewhere. I'm set at P with Dustin Colquitt. He is locked for 5 years and has very good potential.Last edited by K_Man915; 12-25-2010, 12:48 PM.Comment

Re: Road to the Super Bowl: A Kansas City Chiefs Dynasty
And now on to free agency. I have tons of cap space (about $62.8M I think), so I look to make a VERY big splash in free agency this year, hopefully setting a very strong foundation for the coming years.
My first victim was CB Asante Samuel. I signed him to a 5yr. deal worth $44.0M with an $8.0M bonus. This took $7.5M off of my cap.
Next I signed ROLB Lance Briggs. He got a whopping 5yr. $52.0M deal with a $10.0M bonus. This took $8.9M off of the cap.
Then came CB Nnamdi Asomugha. I signed him to a 5yr. $42.0M deal with an $8.0M bonus. That took $7.2M off of the cap.
That was the end of my first day of free agency.
On day 2, I decided that I would trade TE Tony Gonzalez. I treaded him to the Broncos for their 1st rd. pick (12) and their 2009 5th rd. pick.
Then, back to free agency.
I signed RT Jordan Gross to a 5yr. $37.0M deal with a $6.0M bonus. This removed $6.3M from my cap.
Next I signed FS Ken Hamlin to a 4yr. $17.0M deal with a $2.5M bonus. This deal took $3.7M off of my salary cap.
That concluded day 2 of free agency.Comment

Re: Road to the Super Bowl: A Kansas City Chiefs Dynasty
What personality(Ally, Commander) is your coach? Also, what skills or special skills did you get at the start with your initial 50,000 points? You're really limiting your ability to re-sign players in the future with all those FA deals. I count 30 million in cap space(without penalties or incentives) and signing the players in the draft will reduce that. Did any of those FA signings include incentives?Last edited by Mike3207; 12-25-2010, 11:44 AM.Comment

Re: Road to the Super Bowl: A Kansas City Chiefs Dynasty
A couple of days passed before another free agent that I was after came up.
There were 4 more guys I was after, and I signed them in this order.
I signed RG Ben Noll to a 4yr. $20.0M contract with a $3.5M bonus. This took $4.4M off of the cap.
I signed CB Joey Thomas to a 5yr. $19.0M deal with a $2.5M signing bonus. This removed $3.2M from the salary cap.
I signed MLB Jeremiah Trotter to a 5yr. $20.0M deal with a $3.5M dollar signing bonus. This deal removed $3.4M frome the salary cap.
Last one. I signed LG Floyd Womack to a 2yr. $4.6M deal with a $500k signing bonus. This removed $2.2M from my salary cap.
The only guy that I didn't get for the minimum offer was Womack I think. I'm not sure, maybe Trotter also. Womack and/or Trotter were the only guys that incentives that came with their deal.Comment

Re: Road to the Super Bowl: A Kansas City Chiefs Dynasty
I went with promoter for my personality type, and I'm not sure what my skills are, I'll check them later today. I know for sure that I didn't get any special skills. Only Womack and/or Trotter got incentives on their deals plus when I get to the draft, I got all of them to sign for minimum deals with no incentives as well. At the end of free agency I still had about $20M in cap space and since I got all of my draft picks to sign for the minimum, I still have a fair amount of room to operate with. In 3 years I made need to make some moves to re-sign some of this years draft picks. However, unless they are an absolutely key piece to my team I will probably just trade them away for picks and then get another player in the draft (granted they have developed). Or let them go in free agency/RFA.What personality(Ally, Commander) is your coach? Also, what skills or special skills did you get at the start with your initial 50,000 points? Re: Road to the Super Bowl: A Kansas City Chiefs Dynasty
During this time I also made a couple more trades.
I traded DT Alfonso Boone to the Giants for WR Sinorice Moss.
My next trade was a bit of a scam, but the system has flaws. This time it worked in my favor. I needed a RE and the Broncos were looking to trade away Elvis Dumervil. In my system (undersized speed rusher), he was an 88 OVA player which is pretty good. But, I remebered that during one of my other careers I had used a different philosophy that made his OVA 79. So what I did was changed my philosophy so that he was had an OVA of 79 and then traded to get him. Then, I changed my philosophy back so that he had and OVA of 88 and a POT of 90.
I traded LG Brian Waters to the Broncos for RE Elvis Dumervil.
This also reminds me that my goals were to:
1. Acquire a RT. Already got this with Jordan Gross.
2. Acquire a RE. Unfortunately it doesn't count if you do it my way.
3. Acquire a K. Probably not gonna happen.
And the players that I had on the block initially were:
1. HB Jackie Battle
2. RE Turk McBride
3. FS Jon McGraw
4. TE Tony Gonzalez Traded to Broncos
5. LG Brian Waters Traded to Broncos
6. SS Greg Wesley
7. QB Tyler Thigpen Released
8. QB Damon Huard Traded to Falcons
9. QB Brodie Croyle Traded to Bears
10. HB Kolby Smith Traded to Lions
11. DT Alfonso Boone Traded to Giants
12. CB Tyron Brackenridge Traded to Browns
13. CB Rashad Barksdale Released
14. TE Michael Allan Released
15. MLB Napoleon Harris
16. MLB Nate Harris Released
17. FS Jarrad Page
18. SS Bernard Pollard
19. ROLB Johnny Baldwin Released
20. HB Larry Johnson Probably can't trade; penalty would kill me
21. WR Jeff Webb
22. DT Tank Tyler
23. Ron Edwards
24. ROLB Donnie EdwardsLast edited by K_Man915; 12-25-2010, 09:42 PM.Comment

Re: Road to the Super Bowl: A Kansas City Chiefs Dynasty
The Dolphins came and offered to take MLB Napoleon Harris off my hands so I gladly accepted. And I was able to coerce them into a really good deal for me.
I traded MLB Napoleon Harris to the Dolphins for their 2nd rd. pick (64).Comment
