How do you defend the post on HOF Difficulty Level?

I play exclusively on HOF difficulty level and actually fare pretty well. However, the one aspect of this game that has me fuming is the post defense for the user-controlled team - it's non-existent. I want to say (without exaggeration) that about 85-90% of the post shots from the CPU are converted. Can this be remedied? Is it simply a slider issue or is it an inherent flaw in the game?

yes your right the cpu does CHEESE in the post on hof and make almost shot, but you should double team or go for a steal not to much but enough to throw off the defender, then block its all about timing

Appreciate the feedback. I was wondering more if there was a way to get shooting percentages on CPU post shots more down to reality than ways to actually defend the shot (ie: blocking it or stealing it).

Not sure if sliders would do anything considering it's really just the CPU using a cheat than it is the developers turning the post success slider way up.

Have you tried turning down inside and close range sliders to compensate for the AI? I play on Superstar and see this quite a bit. I have tried turning up my on ball D att. slider but did not see a big difference so I am wondering about dropping those 2 sliders down. I just hate not having the AI sliders where mines at but I feel i need to do this to make up for the godly AI play.

why is everyones solution to something being difficult to adjust the sliders? you probably have poor post defenders or youre making small mistakes that give them just enough space. im the nets and the front court of lopez and favors is a solid, but not yet great combo. and if someone is getting the best of them(boozer had 20 points in the first half) i bring przybilla off the bench for extended mins to help upfront even more. i too play on HOF, and though its difficult to defend the post you can take steps to remedy it

The game Cheeses in the post on Superstar with Boozer and Duncan it doesn't matter if you double they just shoot over it, with that said I don't think I'll be upping the difficulty for awhile

My actual post defense is very solid. I'm not being full of myself or exaggerating - I play fundamentally sound post defense. A hand is always (*always*) in the face of the post player and I play with various teams and various players, ranging from weak post defenders to DPOTY-level post defenders.

And from my experience on HOF-difficulty level, post success for the CPU is abnormally high - in the 85-90% success range. And I'm not really talking about a player backing me down and taking it strong inside. I'm really referencing low-percentage turnaround jumpers in the post and wing. Shots that should go in about 40-45% of the time (if defended well), if that.

It's an obvious and unfortunate problem plaguing those who enjoy playing on HOF-difficulty. I still am in almost every game and manage to win a good number of them, but it's just not fair that the CPU gets the advantage of such a clear cheese technique.

I've tried being an advocate for the Superstar and Hall of Fame difficulties, but the advantages that the AI gets on these levels are just unrealistic to me. I'm also one that hates having the CPU and Human sliders at different levels. To me, it sort of negates the need to play at a higher difficulty level. Why play at a higher level if you're just going to tweak something down for the CPU? I've settled on just playing on All-Star for the time being.

Yeah...i just double team the CPU's big men...i go in the defensive matchups screen and usually set it to "double team" "always" on their PF and C. There's really no way to defend the post up moves one on one. double team is the only thing that works.

Re: How do you defend the post on HOF Difficulty Level?

I agree that the CPU cheats to compensate for your abilities as a human but if you're single covering Boozer then you're asking to get scored on. I double team manually with my perimeter defender that has the "easiest assignment" or basically the guy I WANT the CPU to beat me with.

I play Sim/HOF and this tactic works better than any other and is a defense that some teams play in the NBA today.

Ex. When facing Boston, as the Knicks Felton would be the guy I double with b/c he's checking Rondo.

I also will DT with the guy that is on the weakside (the side the ball is not on) or the opposite corner to force a tough pass.

Yes, the game will cheat to a degree but it still has rules it must follow. Rondo isn't going to hit 11 3's on you. They still want to beat you with their superstar and it's your job to stop that. Make them use option 5 instead of option 2.

Lastly - Only very good post players are going to hit that shot consistently. Even the worst NBA post player can hit a shot from time to time. Don't take every basket they score as a failure. If a bum hits you for 6 points at the end of the night, fine. If he hits you for 30pts, then that's on you.

Keep fighting don't bail out by changing the sliders. HOF will tests ALL facets of your stick skill AND coaching. Good luck!

i play on HOF also and i found help for this issue by watching da czars defensive settings video... make sure to use the double team "in the post" on the player(s) whos giving you trouble, this doesnt always stop the cpu from making shots but more often then not they will give the ball up, the trade-off is that perimeter players will be open for three pointers

I agree with all this. also another thing you want to do is make sure they dont get off to a hot start. that makes a really big difference too

If Tim Duncan or Carlos Boozer is in the post in the real NBA one on one with more than 2 seconds to put in work it's a score. You might as well just play offense if you think you're going to just put a hand in a superstars face and get them to miss. You have to frustrate them. Go for steals. Double team. Get blocks. etc.

Step up your post play. It's not impossible to stop a star it's just not easy.

Try the Low Post Defense development drill. If you do it a few times you'll figure out how to force misses.
