How come the NHL series doesn't sell as much?
It's clearly the best, if not, one of the best sports games out there.Send me friend requests! Click To add me to your friends listTags: None -
Re: How come the NHL series doesn't sell as much?
Probably because, and I'm not trying to be harsh here, the NHL is basically a glorified minor league in America. I don't think it's a reflection on the quality of the video game. -
Re: How come the NHL series doesn't sell as much?
My opinion, is that out of all the NHL games EA has released, only a handful, if that, were ever really decent. If you keep putting out a product that doesn't have the quality it should, consumers are going to catch on and not buy it. NHL 11 might be the "strongest" game since NHL 94. That's a huge gap in quality.Comment

Re: How come the NHL series doesn't sell as much?
Well the game sells alot more now than it ever has, on the strength of the EASHL. Will it ever sell more than Madden or even NBA 2K? I doubt it, simply because it's really not a hugely popular sport in the states. Football is America's sport, which is why the Super Bowl is such a huge spectacle. Hockey is Canada's and that's probably the way it will stay no matter what.Comment

Yep, I agree.
Hockey is such a great sport, the speed, physicality, and shear talent of the NHL level players are awesome to watch. But I really doubt we'll see a day anytime soon that the sport of hockey will really solidly compete in the US with football, baseball, basketball, for sports fans attention. Which is a crying shame really, because anyone who actually took the time to get to know the sport and or go see a game live, would fall in love with it.Yep, I agree.

Re: How come the NHL series doesn't sell as much?
Yeah, it's basically because the NHL isn't very popular anymore. That's pretty evident that EPSN doesn't even cover NHL games anymore. You also need cable to watch the NHL, with very few games being shown on the major broadcast networks.
I live in MA, where it's still pretty popular, but there are only a handful of locations in the US where people care about it.Comment

the funny thing is, people that are fans of the NFL, MLB, and even NBA dont really know the game and it rules so to speak. the NHL is just missing idiot fans that go to just go to games etc.
so only 5 locations in the US that care about the NHL? lol..Yeah, it's basically because the NHL isn't very popular anymore. That's pretty evident that EPSN doesn't even cover NHL games anymore. You also need cable to watch the NHL, with very few games being shown on the major broadcast networks.

The reason why ESPN doesn't show highlights or comment about the NHL is purely business related and does not reflect the general popularity of the sport.
ESPN is business partners with the NHL's major competitor, the NBA. Why would ESPN promote NHL games on a rival network when they have the NBA to promote on their network? It really makes perfect business sense not to mention the NHL at all (which they don't).
I have stopped watching ESPN over the years because the way they protect their business partners vs actually covering sporting news. I rely on the sports network ie...NHL Network, NFL Network, MLB TV, NBA TV, Versus, for accurate and intelligent sporting conversation and news. If you can afford those networks, give it a try.Comment

Re: How come the NHL series doesn't sell as much?
Thanks to my wife, she bought tickets for my son and I to go to the Canadians vs Wild game on March 20th. My first in person pro hockey game.
I've been following the NHL since childhood, with the Habs being one of my favorite teams. So she chose this game wisely. I'll probably be wearing my Habs shirt under the Wild third sweater my son got me for Christmas. Can't wait to go!1969 NFL ChampionsComment

I caught Montreal when they came to Colorado a couple of weeks ago. They are a tough team; Colorado had to hold on for dear life to win that game 3-2.
I'm hoping to get to another game or two this season.Currently Playing:
