    Plays to Add to Madden

My annual thread to request certain plays and formations so teams play realistically. I think Anthony White has done a great job in recent years of adding in many realistic NFL concepts and trying to get teams to play as they do in real life. Last year, though, they dumbed down the playbooks a lot. The bad news was that there were less plays to choose from, the good news was that most teams had a bunch of their "staple" plays.

My one other complaint is that certain teams got a lot more love than others. Some teams did not even have one WR screen in their playbook and that just can't happen. Once again, I'll leave the true X and O stuff to those who know a lot more than me.

    **Hoping For:
Full Online Create a Play/Playbook feature with unlimited editing ability

    All Teams Need:
    --More Option Routes
--WR Screens (As mentioned, some teams didn't even have any. The "Welker" screens are basically an NFL staple at this point)
    --TE Screens
--Smoke Route (Should be a hot route option like the PS2 days)
    --Designed Roll Out Passes
--Certain Deep Routes Need to be Deeper (many teams run 18-20 yd. digs, curls, comebacks and outs)

    Deeper Pass Routes:

    Please Bring Back:
    Customizable Packages
    Formation Shifts

    Formation Subs:
--All formations with a TE should have "Extra OL" as an option
--"TE Wide" should be available in more formations

It would be nice if they would add more of these kinds of plays to the playbook. But it seems they always limit the plays and most teams always run the same plays at that. This is where I wish they would give us create a play in madden to let us create the plays we want. Limits hurt so much sometimes.

awesome thread, teams like the pats have so many unused plays that the cpu never calls.... but these would spice up the cpu attack

I, for one, want many more option routes in Madden. I won't pretend I've ever seen a NFL playbook. But from listening to enough commentary, analysis, player interviews, etc, the passing game is not as black & white as it is portrayed in Madden. Many routes have various combinations as dictated by the coverage.

If they were to add more option routes, then I would also like more control as far as leading passes. If I lead to the outside, but the receiver turns inside on an option route, I want that "not on the same page" feeling. Need more control of our passes! I think we are a WAYS away from this though.

With the way the passing system is setup, with passes being heavily tethered to the receiver, this probably would never happen.

Would like to see it as well though.

Re: Plays to Add to Madden

The bubble screen was a nice addition this year, we need more screen plays, more reverses (that work better), more option and misdirection plays!

This play by Garrard would be nice: http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-fantas...d-25-yd-run-TD - it's a bit like the speed option from a few years back, madden 08 i think.

we also need more designed rollout plays, i dont think there are ANY this year without PA..

and also the read option needs to be fixed. it's impossible to get yards with it, ever..even with a guy like vick.

                      YES... YES... YES!!!

Create a play would be the idea way to combat anything people throw at you... But there will be some that won't go for it. They may not know when a play is a glitch and when it's good design.

                      AT THE VERY LEAST...

I want to select my plays from a global playbook. I know exactly which formations I want, plays out of those formations, and how I want to package them. But I can't have one playbook with only the plays I'm going to run, I'm stuck with THE playbook that comes closest to it...

Re: Plays to Add to Madden

                        Defense:

                        --Strong and Weak Side Players:
Strong and Weak OLBs in the 4-3,
Strong and Weak ILBs in the 3-4.
                        DT/NT in the 4-3.
                        True SS/FS.
The Seahawks and I think the Bears might use Strong and Weak DEs. Pretty sure Peppers has been lining up away from TEs all year.

--One gap vs. two gap styles (True Run fits)<O</O
Have two gappers hold the point and read the play. Play Recognition skills are vital here. One gappers are trying to shoot gaps.

                        --Create a Hybrid Position DE/LB.
This has been touched on by a lot of people here. Give us a hot route option to move a guy from a 2 point to a 3 point stance.
One example is the Double Eagle Flex. USC using a DE with an OLB look:

--Stunts and Twists. I know they're difficult to program in the current non-tiered system, but here's just one page from an NFL offensive playbook of what they're looking at:

                        --Pre-snap looks.

This is from another thread I started:
There has been a lot of talk about defense, and it definitely needs to be upgraded for Madden 12. I'll let the smart football people talk about gap control and run fits and the important mechanics of defensive football.

I want the option to determine my pre-snap look. This would bring a ton of variety to the defensive side of ball in both user games and games against the CPU (instead of seeing the safeties standing right next to the CBs showing the Double CB Blitz).

So, I'd like to see one extra option after picking plays: choose the "look." If I choose 4-3 Cover 2, I then get to decide if I'm going to disguise it, or show a generic look. My options can include:

                        --2 High Safeties
--1 High Safety (20 yds. deep)
--8 in the box (probably risky when calling cover 2)
                        --Show "A" Gap Blitz
                        --Show "B" Gap Blitz
                        --Show "C" Gap Blitz
                        --Show Safety Blitz
                        --Show Man
                        --Show Overload Blitz (Jets, Ravens)
There are a number of options that could be included.

This would make for great variety when playing CPU teams as long as team tendencies are done properly.

--Teams like the Eagles, Rams, Giants, Bears, Bengals and more like to show "A" Gap blitz a lot. Sometimes the LBs blitz, sometimes one drops back, sometimes it's Cover 2.

--Teams like the Colts don't do a whole lot of disguising.

--The Saints use one really deep FS for the most part with their SS lurking in and around the box

--Then you have the Jets or Steelers who like to crowd the line and show pressure almost every play, even if they don't send extra people.

All about creativity and make defense less stale, whether you are playing defense or on offense trying to figure out what the defense is doing.
                        <!-- / message -->

Saints' Single High Safety Looks. Notice how deep they play:

                          Plays to Fix:

                          Corner Strike--

                          <a href="http://s1130.photobucket.com/albums/m537/Palo20/?action=view&amp;current=corner_strike.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1130.photobucket.com/albums/m537/Palo20/corner_strike.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

I hate the way the outside WRs run their routes on this play. It's very slow developing and pretty clunky. The Corner Routes are not very realistic. On top of that, the CPU runs this play WAY too much and they have no timing with the outside WRs.

This play should be changed to something like this 3 Verticals variation:

                          <a href="http://s1130.photobucket.com/albums/m537/Palo20/?action=view&amp;current=3verts.gif" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1130.photobucket.com/albums/m537/Palo20/3verts.gif" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Just to piggyback of Paolo's point on pre-snap movement, here is a good illustration from a pics of the Packers v. Falcons. Note how close the safetys are to the LOS pre-snap. White motions to the other side of the formation and the safety drops way back in center field near the 45 for a single high look.

(oh, and this Atlanta formation isn't in Madden :wink

                              RUN -FIT:

Here's a nice example of a run-fit. The Falcons are running a straight power play. They were able to get some pretty consistent run the whole game, but this was defended perfectly. The key was Raji bulling McClure, the center, into the backfield and the OLB setting the edge against the LT Clabo, which doesn't happen nearly enough in Madden.

Pre-Snap (this formation is in Madden -- good job guys:wink

                              Post Snap

And here's a run fit off of a straight zone play from Atlanta from an unbalanced line. It looks like a stop, but it was a 5 yard gain because 74 worked off his double team to the ILB and Roddy White's down block allowed Turner to get the edge.

"A man can only be beaten in two ways: if he gives up, or if he dies."
