What transfer cable exactly should I be ordering?

I'm confused by how many there are, and before someone says it doesn't matter, I've had bad experiences purchasing 3rd party accessories that fail on me.

The stickied johnnyg713 topic mentioned I can order it free over the phone, but I think that no longer applies, as Microsoft sells the cables online for money.

I'm thinking the cable I need is either one of these three, right?:
    http://www.xbox.com/en-US/Xbox360/Ac...eTransferCable (seems overpriced)

    http://www.amazon.com/Migration-Tran...6059934&sr=8-7

Which do you guys like to use?

Dude, this cable doesn't even fit!

The big *** SATA connector doesn't fit onto the HD. Take a gander (Sorry for poor photo quality).

^ Picture of the cable, up-close.

I've tried fitting the cable on in all sorts of directions, but nothing. It is definitely the same cable the guy mentioned above, including the same packaging, so what the hell? I know the guy is banned, so I can't expect a response back from him, so can anyone else help me? Why doesn't the cable fit and where can I find a cable that does?

While I don't use the 360 for this, why not go with the $20 cable from Microsoft that is made for the hard drive? Seems like you can't go wrong with that, although it says you can't go from one 360 S to another (which, as I take it, you're not trying to do). Actually, any of the three you listed look different from what the other guy posted.

It just seems the hassle of the waiting and finding what you got isn't the right one just isn't worth it.

I know it's not worth it that's why I play it on the original xbox not to mention I think the game plays better too.

I don't begrudge anyone for using their 360, but I do think it is easy to keep them both hooked up (if you have them) and just use the orig. for 2k5. With my old XP computer (which I might as well call my 2k5 computer, since that's all I use it for), swapping files is fast and easy. I bought the removable drive for my 360 and have yet to take it out of the package.

So are you guys are claiming that the cable I bought was for the original XBox? I'd imagine so - I can't fathom what else this cable I bought is for, unless the banned guy straight-up lied to me.

Regardless, I don't want the hassle of pulling out my old heavy dust magnet original XBox just to play one game. I want a straight-up X360 transfer cable that can help me do what 95% of all the other forum users are doing to this game.

Are you referring to this one?:

Can anyone confirm if this works or not? The female connector definitely looks like the right size from a distance, although it's hard to get a sense of scale without me testing it.

Re: What transfer cable exactly should I be ordering?

Ahh, I see now what the cable I bought was for - it's exclusively for the new XBox 360S. My HD must be an older variant. You can see the distinction of the two connectors in the video on this page:

Well that solves that question. Now I just need to know if anyone can confirm if this cable will work for the old X360's. All I want to do is transfer NFL 2k5 roster files, period:

I've already wasted time and money on my first mistake, so I don't want to screw up a second time.

I'm pretty sure that if you open the hard drive casing you can actually use that cable.

Yea but removing the casing could void a warranty and is just clumsy to do.

Oh well, I'm going to take the plunge on this cable:
                    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...A2NK89850H0GO2

It's only $6.31 w/ free shipping and & handling, so I'll risk it.

Re: What transfer cable exactly should I be ordering?

Good news - the cable worked! I have two nitpicks about it though...

1.) Be careful not to slide the cable all the way into the X360's HDD male connector, otherwise you'll have trouble separating them. Granted, pulling very hard at it works, but I read someone ripped his X360's connector doing this. The key is to only put the cable on barely. It doesn't need to insert all the way.

2.) My Windows XP PC was giving me an error reading something about a USB overload or failure, or something. I think my USB port wasn't strong enough, or maybe it needs USB 2.0. I moved to another PC using Windows 7 and it ended up working.

Otherwise, yea, it's a great cable for a cheap price.

One other nitpick to consider about my cable is even though it can fit regardless of its orientation onto my HD, it only works with one orientation. I took the liberty of marking one side "left" so I remember which side is the correct orientation. Minor hassle, but oh well.

                            I use this:

It was free at the time (2 years ago)

They used to have a little form you filled out on the website and just mailed it in to them. MS shipped it to me, free of charge.

Now it cost money... those creeps lol

I went to gamestop on a whim Tuesday after work. It is literally on the way home from work. They had a used cable (same model as the one they sell new there). Works like a champ. The weird thing was, I was shocked he actually pointed out they had a used one which saved me money. I would never have paid full price for anything in that store. I was doubly shocked when he told me, that I should transfer everything at once, then i could return the cable within seven days for a refund... lol

Of course, when i checked out he made up for that by trying to sell me some "membership" for discounts. Told him I would save him having to waste his time, wasnt interested.. lol

The cable on their website is the one that worked for me.
