Nope. In this scenario, reviving 2K Sports' dead games would not appear on Activision's agenda. -

I would have to think that if Activision takes over there may actually be an increase in a chance especially considering they lost the exclusive NFL liscense again. If they never go after a college hoops game again I would have to assume however that they will chase down the NFL liscense when it expires again in 2013. It is definitely going to be a defining moment in sports gaming if it goes down.http://pcfriars1213.blogspot.com/ - Coaching Career of Ed Cooley College Hoops 2k8Comment

The sad truth is college hoops games just don't sale well. With game companies looking at maximizing revenue I don't see a college hoops game in the future. While we all love 2k8 we are a small few. The numbers are not there. Even going at a 2 year cycle would not justify the money invested. If there was money to be made then EA would have keep making a game. The market is just too small to support the game. I would love a new version of 2k8 but I just don't see it happening.Relax, it's just a video game!Comment

I agree. College basketball games just aren’t profitable. I don’t know if maybe the NCAA lowered their license fee if that would help. The sad truth is college hoops games just don't sale well. NCAA lowering their license fee would be crucial if we ever wanted to see another college basketball video game again.
I do think one could be profitable, but both quality AND marketing support have to be there. College Hoops 2K8 was a great game but had almost zero help in terms of marketing.
If I was in charge of the 2K marketing department I would hit the college campuses HARD. Look at the thousands and thousands of college kids who pack the student sections for bball games. I think it's safe to say these are hardcore college basketball fans, and the majority of them are likely gamers. You want to target these folks, and you do that through advertising, social media, and holding events on campus.
Disclaimer: I work in marketing, so I think it can fix anything.

I agree that marketing could help but it can only do so much. The thing is the fan base for college basketball games has always been small. I teach high school history and coach so I'm around kids all the time. I don't know how many I have told a kid about 2k8 but most are not that into college hoops games. You could spend money on some quality marketing for a newer version of 2k8 but you will only see a very, very small gain in numbers. The issue is the market size is small. The cost vs profit is not there. You being in marketing should know that you can't mass market a product that has a small consumer base. The numbers are just not there.NCAA lowering their license fee would be crucial if we ever wanted to see another college basketball video game again.

Although College games havent sold as well I do believe that with the success of NBA2k11 and with so many people wanting a College game it could possibly be one of the best selling College games made,-= Never argue with an idiot, they drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.=- Edward MurphyComment

I agree, moderate to poor marketing won't do it for college hoops
NBA2k11 hit it good with MJ ....maybe they could do some classic college games or seeing Michigan's fab 5 on the coverComment

Re: Possibility of a new CH game if Activision buys Take-Two?
I would pay 80 dollars for a new game. Most people would pay 40. I like the idea of making a game and have DLC for it. Some people would pay the $40 and leave it at that while others would pay the 40 plus $30 in DLC. With the market and revenue so small they could just keep adding DLC rather than spending millions and millions on a new game.
I think if EA had the players classes unlocked to edit this wouldn't be so bad.

The issue with DLC is not everyone is going to purchase it. If they keep features out of the game to offer as DLC then it will hurt sales. Then if they produce a game equal to 2k8 then what DLC could you add other then stuff for the kids. I don't want to keep sounding like I don't want a new college hoops game but I also see things the way they are. The numbers are not there any way you look at it.I would pay 80 dollars for a new game. Most people would pay 40. I like the idea of making a game and have DLC for it. Whoever mentioned the idea of classic teams was really thinking. It would be a good way to get all audiences to play the game giving them chances to relive some of the greatest games in history. It would also be cool to let those teams play the current teams in a legacy. This might be a great way to market the game.http://pcfriars1213.blogspot.com/ - Coaching Career of Ed Cooley College Hoops 2k8Comment

I would have to look at the #'s again but if I remember correctly they weren't bad, they were terrible. I don't think marketing would really matter that much. I love the game but I can understand why they stopped making it.PSN: OldStyle24Comment
