Are the entry drafts randomly generated at the start of a season?

In Be A GM mode, I started a new game, and with the oilers, I selected Yury Kaspariatis first overall and I had another good second rounder- nelson colaiacovo. Then I made some trades, and one of them was really bad, and since of course nhl 11 took out the "turn off autosave option", I had no choice but to keep on restarting until I got his class again. I tried about 12 more times, and each time I started a new one, I got some ashman guy, and it was a really weak draft class. My question is, is there anyway to choose which draft class you get for the very first season, or is it randomly generated?

The first draft is one that has the leftovers from the real draft

They are junior players and players from other countries that had their "draft year" last season and did not get selected, Nugent Hopkins, Larsson, Coutourier, Murphy, etc, come in the draft after your first season.

Whats the best strategy to finding the gems in the draft?

Just sort them by each of the 3 ratings.
          ie: offense =7.5 in green/Defense = 7.5 green/Athletic= 7.0 green.
Being green usually means it's a good scouting report, red means it's not very accurate, & amber/orange means mediocre scouting report.
I often find "gems" that are rated undrafted.
As you progress make sure to upgrade your scout.
This will give you a more accurate look @ the players before you draft them.

I recently found a somewhat cheesy way to find some of the "gems" in the draft. During the Prospects Game, you can go to the Player Stats screen and see their overall rating. I note all the players that have a 70+ overall and target them for the draft. I can usually grab a few of those players in the first few rounds.
