    Gamespot Review Thread

Read it and weep fellas....literally: http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/sports/m...%3Bread-review

    The Good

    - New analog pitching interface is both realistic and challenging ???
    - Tweaks to Road to the Show add some realism to player progression
    - Boasts a number of small, subtle improvements that make the game more lifelike
    - Beautiful, almost photo-realistic visuals.

    The Bad

    - Few significant changes from last year
    - Steep learning curve for analog hitting and throwing. ???
The good news is, those of us at O.S. can truly appreciate what this game is in relation to other baseball games and other sports games in general. I'm guessing IGN and Gamespot like to base their scores over year to year improvements instead of judging the game on its own merits.

Oh please. This is the same site that called Madden 08 "The first great football game for the next-gen console".

    Bah.

The bias that these mainstream gaming sites have towards sports gaming is absurd. They really need to focus on hiring staff members who have a genuine interest in sports gaming to review sports games. To score a game low because it didn't add a bunch of new game modes is also absurd. (What's ironic is that a certain football franchise which shall remain nameless gets criticized for doing exactly that and ignoring the gameplay side of things)

It's baseball. There's only so much that you can do it. Every (major) aspect of Major League Baseball that I can think of is present, so what game modes can they really add? Are they expecting a soft ball mode or something? If a game is made to simulate a professional sports league, then a game should be judged on how well it simulates that respective sports league. In my opinion, the MLB series does this as well as anyone. If anything, this series should be seen as the standard, and I'm not even a hardcore baseball guy. This series has singlehandedly piqued my interest in the sport.

I remember the days when I used to go only to Gamespot for reviews, back in the days that they were fair and were the best videogame site around....

These days I don't use them ever...they really lost all of their reputation, and IGN is heading the same way...

I seem to agree a lot with Eurogamer these days...very fair scores IMO

I really dont understand what else they can cram into an already crammed game!
These reviewers seem dissapointed because the game is missing something.
            Imo its almost perfect!
Gameplay is solid, graphics are truly next gen, and every year they give the game even more polish. I think this year, over last year, is not just a roster update but almost a complete overhaul (with the exception of the commentary): Colors pop, players move a lot smoother, menus and layouts look cleaner and better, and those little things make the game more enjoyable to me.
I personally cant think of what else could make this a more complete baseball videogame experience ::cough:: commentary!
It almost seems like the reviewer read the back of the box and based his review on that.
This is definitly not the same game as last year. I can never go back to 10!

I AM SICK AND TIRED OF HEARING

"MLB 11 THE SHOW IS THE VICTIM OF IT'S OWN SUCCESS"

What does that even mean!? I know what it means but half of the review articles I have read have included that general statement.

You shouldn't get a good score because the game is a success?

Yeah it's pretty funny seeing people get their panties in a bunch over what a videogame review.

FWIW the reviews remind of what happened with WSB 2k4. A game clearly superior to its predecessor with a lot of subtle and under the hood changes not getting a fair shake from the mainstream reviewers because there isn't an in your face "wow" factor.

                        I agree with you guys.
Plus, the CD boys, and us, provide much deeper thoughts and reviews of the games then any of those sites ever do.
All those reviews seem vanilla compared to what we discuss in depth before and after release here.

But the same people who get the old underoos in a bind over bad reviews, jump around the house high five-ing grandma when it gets a 10 somewhere.
                        who cares. lol

besides, the game got a review of 'great'. is there really a reason to get all twisted up?

also, a nice tidy 'all in one' review thread would make it cool for those who want to see all the reviews of the game.

I pretty much agree with the review. The new cameras & analog controls was enough to make me get the game this year. But it's still not fresh as it could be. Never has a game needed an audio overhaul like the show. God get new announcers already. Analog throwing meter needs to be alot better. Game still needs some better looking fielding cameras. Not being able to tweak how far away the pitcher is pretty much ruins the custom camera mode. The replays have to be turned off or you go blind because of the stupid flashing graphics.

It's a great game, no doubt. The little touches are amazing. But they need to find a way to add some life to the game. Simple fact is I have to play the game solo because my friends and roomates find the game boring, so we end up playing 2k or mvp. So it's doing something wrong.

Exactly and then get irate because the reviewer doesn't say what you feel or agree with what you think.

Relax guys, its one reviewer who was told to review a game.

You can only praise the good reviews and bash the bad ones (in terms of score).
Sometimes you just have to agree to disagree and move on. Who cares?

Your thoughts on the game doesn't make you right and his thoughts doesn't make it right.
