Madden NFL 12 Video - Peyton Hillis Goes Beast Mode

Check out the Madden NFL 12 article, over at Wired, where they talk about how the game is poised for unprecedented realism. They've also posted the following video.

Good find. Gotta admit, the new collision system actually looks good across the board. Running animations look better and I'm sure that this video was set up this way but no no with so many broken tackles lol

Nice vid at the bottom of the article
I find the video a bit scary with Tiburon's record for implementing new features. If this is what we can expect from the collision system, I'd say we'd have 10+ threads of complains here on OS come mid-September.

Peyton Hillis is a big, strong RB/FB-hybrid, but the defenders should be able to hold on and slow him down long enough for other tacklers to join in. In the the video, defenders are instantly brushed aside as he runs through.

I'd like to have seen a defender grab and hold on to him for a few seconds - Hillis would still moving forward because of his momentum. Maybe they'll implement that next year as a new feature

I'm pretty sure they just set it up that way for the video. Hillis won't be that good in the game. The running animations are looking better though.

Only time will tell if all these features have been implemented properly.

They probably have that set on Rookie so they can show case the hitting and collision system.

I agree. It is probably on rookie or pro mode just to enhance the collision. Plus with sliders everything can be adjusted to show or not show certain things.

In a video entitled "Peyton Hillis Goes Beast Mode" were you really expecting him to get tackled?

Probably set up to highlight him. Even if it's not we have 4 months to launch and what they should be doing now is polishing these kind of things. Not to mention don't we get tuner sets this year.

I actually like all the animations I saw in that video, especially the broken high arm tackle.

I do love the new break out of a leg tackle animation. In the past that was always a twisting tackle that made you fall to the ground.

Man, am I honestly the only one completely worried by this video. I mean this is typical stuff we are use to seeing. He runs over Troy Polamalu multiple times in this video like he was a college D-2 player.

This video reminds me of NFL2k4 where the HBs broke 18 tackles a game or more.

Edit: Before I get called out, I understand it is a "beast mode" trailer. But we have seen this find its way into Madden 10, I did not get 11 so i can't comment on this. But HBs spinning out of 4 man tackles and such happened to often. Hope it is balanced by release is all I am saying.

                            Concussion presentation:

In the game, a virtual trainer will run out to help the concussed player walk off the field. As in the real world, the player won?t be permitted to return to action. A report several plays later will detail the injury, and in-game commentators Gus Johnson and Cris Collinsworth will review its impact. ?We?re not trying to teach about concussions and what they are and how to avoid them,? Frazier said. ?What we are teaching is that they?re serious.?The sensitivity to concussions is joined with an all-new collision system in which player-to-player contact produces hits more reflective of the ones leveled on Sunday afternoons.
                            Pretty cool

Seriously guys? This is a video by the devs to showcase their cover athlete in beast mode. They probably changed some settings so that the defenders have zero chance of bringing Hillis down. They just wanted to show how great Hillis is and this doesn't represent how many broken tackles there will be in the final game.
