Can someone tell me what's so special about Ricky Rubio? I've never seen him play so I can't make any comparisons/evaluations on him myself. Is he a Rondo type of player?

You never seen him play at all? You should Youtube him bro. There are tons of clips out there.

I would say his style is similar to Rondo just not as fast or athletic as Rondo. He's more controlled but he can make all the passes as far as I can tell.

I don't know how he'll pan out really nor do I care to guess, but it's interesting none the less. I think with him, just like maybe with Rondo, it all depends on who surrounds Rubio.

Rondo has proved he can score a lot, Rubio still has a long ways to go to prove he can score in the NBA. At this point he's much more of a set up guy.

Booyeah!! Now I want to start a new association skip through the first season and head into the draft and see who I can get to support Ricky Rubio... If he can just play smart defence and make good passes I don't care if he averages 5 PPG... just as long as he is a better passer than Flynn and Ridnour.

I bet he bombs and doesn't come anywhere close to the hype.

            Just a feeling.

If he lives up to half the hype I'd be shocked. He's to slow and can't score.

Re: Ricky Rubio agrees to join Minnesota for the 11-12 season

Honestly is there any hype left? I think after he didn't come over some of the mystique wore off as he played another year or so in Europe. People started to see that he is definitely still a work in progress and that it's extremely questionable as to how he would work over here in America.

I really don't think they hype is there for the kid anymore. Not to mention even when he was being hyped when he first got drafted, it seemed like it was split 50/50, one half saying he'd be Pistol Pete the other half saying he'd be a bust because he couldn't shoot, was not athletic and was weak defensively.

I for one can't see him being any worse than a Luke Ridnour. But yeah he was picked high so I guess he does have raised expectations. I am pulling for the kid because I like the way he approaches the game. Seems like a true quarterback and floor general. That's somewhat lost these days.

I think his hype fell after the 09-10 season.
Can he at least make free throws and layups.
Off Topic- Just saw a Youtube vid of him, he looks like he is 13-16 years old.

Just watched a couple YouTube clips of his. Looks like he has the flashy passes down, though those will probably lead to a few more turnovers in the NBA. He could bring some excitement to the T'Wolves, though I wouldn't expect him to put up many points outside of the occasional lay-up.

I think his stats will be 7pts-8 assist-4TOs. You cant do all them flashy passes in the NBA.

At that stat range, Rubio can be the next "white chocolate".

I can honestly see Rubio having a similar career path as Jason Williams as well as being the same caliber of player. Never an All-Star, shoot a terrible percentage to start out, but a player who can orchestrate a team through a competitive playoff run, but not necessarily make a team all out contenders. Minnesota could definitely be the new Sacramento Kings.

Start out as an up and coming sensation on a young run and gun team, but kind of wear out his welcome with Minny [and them going after a more steady PG like they did with getting Bibby], then get traded and have some continued success... eventually landing with a third team and being a matured and seasoned quarterback, not as flashy.

The similarities are certainly there. Jason Williams to be fair, was pretty athletic though and also loved to shoot, even though he wasn't necessarily good at it, lol.

Irony alert: Jason Williams started his career during the lockout shortened season....

I'm happy this two year wait is finally going to be over, but I fear failure. I just pray he does well enough that we aren't the laughingstock of the league for another year. If Rubio tanks I think it'll be the end of Mr. Kahn's reign in Sota'.
