Arizona State Prestige
I was scrolling through the teams in dynasty mode when I noticed that Arizona State is a 4-star prestige. Now I don't know a ton about their recent success or not, but to me, they seem like a 3-star middle of the road type team Even though people are picking them to potentially win the Pac-12 this year, I don't think they should have been rated a 4-star in '11. Anyone else have a reason as to why they're rated so high?Tags: None -

Re: Arizona State Prestige
Although I agree it should have been put in the thread regarding prestige...

You always seem to come off the wrong way when you tell people they don't need to make a new thread. All you have to do is point out that there is a thread for all discussions like this.Comment

Re: Arizona State Prestige
Because. Don't you remember they won a bowl game in 2005? That, and the fact that someone at EA probably went to them, give the team an amazing reason to be a 4*.Football: Denver Broncos
Baseball: Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs
Hockey: Allentown Phantoms
NCAA: The College of William and Mary Tribe

Re: Arizona State Prestige
Lol, yah I actually had to do some research on them and what they'e done in the last few years. A 10 win season and a Pac-10 Championship in 07 and a loss to Texas in the Holiday bowl, but that's about it. Certainly doesn't warrant giving them a 4-star prestige rating.Comment

Re: Arizona State Prestige
Nope. If a team has 0 bowl wins for 6 years, with only 2/3 appearances, they are not 4*. Their last bowl win was in a 7-5 season, I believe.Football: Denver Broncos

Re: Arizona State Prestige
They've been all over the place with the prestige. I didn't really look in great detail this year, except at their Central Florida homerism again-last year they were on pace with Arkansas and Cal and Texas Tech, which is laughable, now they're a better program than UCLA.
A few years ago, they had Notre Dame as a 6-star program still despite the Irish having losing seasons, no bowl wins in forever etc etc. It was based off Notre Dame being good decades ago, but then Boise State after a handful of good seasons, was also a 6-star program even though no one knew their football program existed before 10 years ago. That type of inconsistent logic pervades throughout, but because of the instant gratification crowd, it really doesn't matter. You can go 1 star to 6 in 5 years, which is ridiculous, but in all the years they've made the game, they haven't figured out that it should take longer, so you can fix the initial screwups easily with the screwed up systemComment

Re: Arizona State Prestige
I agree that 4 stars is a bit much for this program. I bleed Maroon & Gold, and its hard to disagree with this. Looking back over the past 20-30 years, ASU has never been able to get over the hump. Since the late 70's and departure from the WAC, ASU has put together a half-a-dozen good seasons that are usually followed by miserable follow-ups. The talent level has always been above average, and under-achievers have helped this program get into big games, but we've never been able to compete in recruiting against U$C or UCLA for the big time players. We can't even get the local AZ 5 star types to stay home and play for the Devils. They go off to U$C, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Michigan. But as bad as ASU has been over the past 20 years, Arizona has been worse, and thats sad. They promote themselves as the "Harvard on the Border" and have never won a PAC-10 championship outright. Their biggest victories have come in games where they knocked ASU out of the Rose Bowl. I've read the 2012 hype about ASU, and am hopeful for a good year. The defense is solid, and 90% of last years starters are back. Close losses to top 10 teams last year will hopefully inspire this team to close out games, and move the program forward into BCS contention. For those of you who don't root for frontrunners, or your team has had similar past history, I feel for you. Its hard to be a fan of a team that gets close, then takes three steps backwards... All we can do is hope.Comment

Not in NCAA '11
Yah, I looked back at their schedule from 2010 and u could honestly make a case that they could've been 9-3, 10-2 if they would've won the close ones. They should be pretty solid this year tho like u said. Their defense is beastly with Vontaze Burfict.I agree that 4 stars is a bit much for this program. Re: Arizona State Prestige
I dont know why you guys are bagging on ASU. Between 2002-2010 ASU was #29 on average for recruiting. In NCAA 2012 there are 35 teams that that rank 4* or better, that would put ASU in that range over the past decade. Over the same span Notre Dame averaged a rank of 17...mainly due to abnormaly low classes in 2004 (32) and 2005 (40). So they are securely in the 5* range, and if you excluded those two years they are right on the edge of the 6* programs.
Isnt prestige just a reflection of recruiting power? So a 6* program should be able to regularly land 5* star talent and below. 5* programs 4* talent and below and so on down the list. So I think the ratings arent bad in my opinion. Ea's ranking must reflect on field success as well though because boise states recruiting classes rarely impress nationallyComment
