Hines Ward Arrested For DUI

DECATUR, Ga. (AP)—Pittsburgh Steelers star wide receiver Hines Ward(notes) was arrested early Saturday in Georgia on a drunken driving charge, sheriff’s officials said.

The former Super Bowl MVP and reigning “Dancing With the Stars” champ was booked into the DeKalb County jail just outside Atlanta at 3:41 a.m. and charged with driving under the influence. A jail official said he was released on $1,300 bond, though the sheriff’s office website said his bond was set at $1,000. The discrepancy couldn’t be immediately resolved Saturday.

The sheriff’s office said it had turned over paperwork to the courts and couldn’t release any further information about the player’s arrest.
A Steelers spokesman did not immediately respond to a message, and it was not immediately clear if Ward had an attorney.

Since being drafted in the third round out of Georgia in 1998, the 35-year-old Ward has been a four-time Pro Bowl selection and won two Super Bowls.

Dancing with professional partner Kym Johnson, Ward in May became the second professional football player to win the “Dancing” crown after Emmitt Smith won in 2006. He bested actresses Kirstie Alley and Chelsea Kane to become the season 12 champion of the TV celebrity dance competition.

Seems like every month a different athlete is arrested for DUI. I'm glad this only ended in a arrest.

I'll never understand.

I guess he did lose the NFL provided driver for any player 24 hours a day since the lockout. If I was a player, I would probably use that service everyday to go to and from practice. Get some extra sleep or whatever while you are driven to practice. If you wanted, you would never have to drive anywhere.

If Hines Ward called a taxi or got a DD this never would of happened. Don't put the blame on the lockout.

Exactly. It's not that hard and I'm not sure how the problem of drunk driving can be stopped. If you know you're going to party make sure you have a way of getting home safely. I'll never understand these stupid decisions.

you don't think joe montana or jerry rice or eric dickerson or dan marino ever had a DUI if you do your abliss to the age of media outlets to me who cares as long as he or she does not kill someone or it is not during a big game or the season then this to me is a intrusion of privacy and we as fans now look at this titan of a warriors acomplishments on the field as slighly tarnished

because of some laim off the field issue why did we not give him praise
when he was acused of car jacking did he not remain calm ? and did not make a scene out it eather if i recall. the press cracks me up

So Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, Eric Dickerson, or Dan Marino getting a DUI makes Hines Ward getting a DUI ok? Thousands of people get a DUI a year. It does not this any less serious. And this occuring in the off-season, not the regular season somehow makes it better?

Intrusion of privacy? Any ordinary joe who gets arrested can have his story in the news. When you get arrested on a public road and put the rest of the general public in danger your privacy goes out the window.

I'm a bit disappointed. Ward seems like a good guy and all but he should've used better judgment. At least no one was injured or killed.

It's ridiculous, a DUI should be an automatic year out of the league, 2nd offense should be at least 2. 3rd and you're done. That's more serious than cheating in the league, as it should be... and it should be treated that seriously even if you don't hit someone.

Ward has released a statement saying he wasn't impaired, despite failing the field sobriety test(s) and refusing to take a breathalyzer after being pulled over for not maintaining his lane and hitting a curb in his Aston Martin.

WOW I can hardly tell what you are trying to say here. If you are saying what I think you are then just wow.

So you are saying that its ok to drive drunk as long as you don't get caught doing it during a game or during the season its ok? Please tell me I read that wrong.

And when the hell did Dan Marino, Montana, Dickerson, or Rice ever have a DUI? To the best of my knowledge they haven't. I could be wrong though.

Please someone jump in here and tell me if I misinterpreted his post.
