Can someone help me run the ball against cpu?
Ok. I'm not a harcore player but I do half way enjoy a realistic game. I am playing as Florida State in All-American dynasty year 1. I am having a rough time running the ball. E.J. Manuel puts up 300 yards a game, but my team running is usually 20 carries 40-60 yards. I have tried I-form Ace, Goalline, Pistol, Option, run up the middle draw everything I can figure out and absolutely no luck. I know I know open the ground game up with the pass, but with Manuel putting up 300 yards shouldn't that give me some sort of ability to run up the middle especially against maryland and lamonroe? Please help.Tags: None -

I'll try 3 angles: sweep, power (just off the tackle) and draw straight up and really watch how the D reacts to each type. -
Re: Can someone help me run the ball against cpu?
move ur rb ability to 60 and when you play you may have to mess with the gameplan to get your line to hold longer, big run and impact blocking. also use the steering it helps get through the holes and break tackles. Practice this first and get used to how thompson runs . He's a beast if you know what to do with him.Comment

Re: Can someone help me run the ball against cpu?
Im not sure if this is what you are doing but.......many people hit the sprint button as soon as the back getes the ball. Often times this leads to getting to the hole before the OL has actually had time to open it. I try to wait until I see the hole before hitting the sprint button and on many occasions it gives me more time to react and often I find a hole thats not where it was supposed to be. So my advice is patience in finding the hole and more times than not, you can turn that 2 yd run off tackle into a 6yd run off of guard and vice versa.Comment

Re: Can someone help me run the ball against cpu?
Try turning down CPU tackling to 10, I have done that and have good success. Actually, I think I am going to have to try turning it back up some, not sure how much though.Ok. I agree with this. Turn off your auto sprint and use it as described above. Know where your holes should be and where your blockers are going and follow them.Im not sure if this is what you are doing but.......many people hit the sprint button as soon as the back getes the ball. Re: Can someone help me run the ball against cpu?
running is the easiest thing in this game...but u gotta be patient. lay off the turbo until u identify the hole and hit it as earlier stated. besides, ur more agile and can move laterally better when not on turbo. then u can boost thru the hole when u get it. and follow the blocks that are layed in front of u. blockers sometimes do something unpredictable, but since ncaa11...they usually do the smart thing and will lead u to the 2nd level. just last night i was playing with uconn. had that running gm working with DJ Shoemate. 3 long tds just because i followed blocks. had one where i slowed down to follow the G as he ran up to the 2/3 level and took out the safety to spring me. so beautiful following ur blocks.Lets Go:

Re: Can someone help me run the ball against cpu?
i am having incredible success on all american (no slider adjustments) with any singleback formation , with hb dive / hb sprint 8 -10 yards a carry . and can do it almost at will , but can not establish run with any other plays.Comment

Re: Can someone help me run the ball against cpu?
Here's how I got a lot better:
- Know Your Team: One of the first things I do when I'm playing as a new team is look at my OL ratings. Who are the best blockers? Which side should I run? Where will I have the best cutback possibilities?
- Replace Your Turbo: Instead of hitting turbo, hit cover ball. I've basically moved the position of my finger so that I don't get trigger-happy ("Trigger." Get it. Teehee, I'm clever.) If you accidentally hit Cover, no big deal, you just slow down. Accidentally hit Turbo? All defensive players beat their blocks. I only hit turbo when I'm out in the open.
- Cutback is Key: Look for cutback options. You may be tempted on stretches and power plays to always run outside the tackle, but keep one eye on the inside. All those blockers you have in there could be holding up and giving you another option. Same goes for inside plays. Sometimes linebackers overplay your run or a tackle gets pancaked and BOOM! you're running down the sideline.
- Wait For It: Wait for you blocks as long as you can. This includes one you pass the line. If you have a pulling guard or TE running in front you 5 yards beyond the LOS and the SS is charging, layoff Turbo and let your blocker get 'im. It's much easier to run around a block then a defender.
- New Get the Upper Hand: Sometimes you're matched against a team with a stellar front seven. Come out with a 3-wide set! Don't let them get their best personel on the field. When I control, um, less then stellar teams, I spent most of my time in 3 & 4-wide sets to spread the field and allow me to get a better read on what the D was wanting to do.
But the game is still pretty good at stopping you no matter what you do. There are blitzes that you won't see pre-snap that won't be blocked. Linemen and FB's will occasionally whiff. Things happen, but I'm pulling 150-300 yards a game on AA with some mediocre-to-above average talent, and that with the pass being mixed in.Last edited by StumpyJones; 07-20-2011, 12:13 PM.Filling recruiting boards? Re: Can someone help me run the ball against cpu?
Everyone is correct. Just as a real runner would...be patient and follow your blockers. If it's an inside run, stay inside. Every run will not be a home run. Get north and south as soon as possible, one cut and go!twitter: soul914

Re: Can someone help me run the ball against cpu?
Thanks guys, I think hitting turbo too soon and not being patient on the blocks is my biggest problem. Also it appears people are having problems with the cpu defense just being ridiculous on the sweeps especially out of the shotgun, maybe a glitch or they are just having same problems as me. So I appreciate the help, and I will do my best to be patient and MMurda I think gave me the best advice to not put my finger on the turbo. (Still wish I could go back to Madden 99 everything was turbo back then (sighs)). On a side note not to put down stumpy jones, as he had the most complete response, but mmurda just exposed my problem the best.Comment

Re: Can someone help me run the ball against cpu?
Hmmm... I've been having the opposite trouble. Seems like I can't connect on a pass to save my life, but I can run for 300+ yds with ease. The trick for me is I usually split carries to keep my backs fresh (usually 20-25 for main back and 5-10 for spell back). I play 10 minutes quarters on AA.
To me, the secret to running the ball is not what formation or even the caliber of the running back, but instead being patient and waiting on holes to open. In this year's version more so than ever, you must be patient and visualize the holes in the line. Under no circumstances should you hit turbo before you get past the first level.
Try this, once you get the handoff know which gap the play is designed to run through, then be patient as the OL opens the hole. Once you get passed the initial layer of defense (the DL and blitzing LB) then hit the turbo and you should be money. My 1st string RB is averaging 189.6/game and my spell back 68.2/game through 6 games with UL-monroe on AA difficulty. I run the "run balanced" playbook. They are only rated 71 and 60-something, respectively.Comment

Re: Can someone help me run the ball against cpu?
Thanks that's another good hint for me as well. The hint about actually running through the gap the run is designed for, not trying to bounce it to the outside everytime. Just out of curiosity, what do you use for your oline shift? the l2 on the ps3 for me. I usually go up, (and yes I forgot the names) on runs up the middle, left and right for runs left and right. i almost never use the down one. Think that is having something to do with it? I've never actually seen it work very well.
Now on to you. I think your main problem is the playbook you are using. If its a run first playbook obviously the passing plays aren't going to be the best. What i do is a lot of slants. The game really took away the curl routes about 3 years ago, unless you run a bunch of deep routes. After you butter your bread with the slants then I hit them deep with a stick and go or a verticals. Also the slot reciever hitting a post to the side line (I don't know the technical term for that) still works. I hope I helped at alll. I'm really not that good so take what i say with a grain of salt, but i figured you helped me so the best i can do is try to help you. Thanks again.Comment

i just run it up the gut with dives and blasts and isos and use power o. i do some draws and off tackle runs out of the shutgun too.Comment
