    Automatic Redshirts

    Hi,

Seen several posts about previous editions of NCAA that state that if a player does not accumulate a single stat, the CPU will automatically redshirt them.

This is important if you have made a promise to not redshirt first year on campus, which I did with all of my recruits.

The following permalink is to an OS post that states that in NCAA 11 if the promise to not redshirt is made, the CPU will NOT automatically redshirt that player.

    http://www.operationsports.com/forum...post2042458249

Can I get a definitive confirmation as to what the truth is for NCAA 12?

    Thanks

I think they do get red shirted if they don't play, so I would make sure to play the guy. to be safe.

I appreciate you trying to be helpful. Problem is i made the promise to 15 players.

If someone definitely knows that the CPU will not automatically redshirt players that were promised otherwise, it would save me a whole lot of time mucking around with the depth chart...

I have no idea, but in the interest of trying to be helpful, something you may try is simply saving another file of your dynasty, and simming to the end of the season to see what the answer is.

Can I do this with an OD that I am not the commissioner?

Guess i could just start my own OD...

Seems like a lot of unpaid work for something that could easily be made transparent by making a decent game manual available as part of the purchase price.

I have never seen the AI auto redshirt a human controlled player for ANY reason. But then I don't play with any CPU assists turned on either.

you may just need to make sure guys play on special teams. I always add guys to kickoff, punt etc. I don't like that there are automatically offensive players on st when a young defensive player could be getting time.

might be a dumb question, but how do you change who is on your kickoff team?

Ah, I didn't realize you were in an OD.

You could try testing it out in an offline dynasty, but again, thats a decent amount of work and time given how tedious and time consuming recruiting can be on this game.

Since my kicker was better than my punter one year I had my kicker be both kicker and punter and after the season was over the punter was redshirted.

If the promise is to not redshirt the first year, why does it matter if they are redshirted the 2nd year?

You just have to get them a stat, albeit a tackle, carry, catch, pass attempt, etc, and the CPU will not auto redshirt them.

                            I never make promises I can't keep

I play with house rules recruiting to keep it challenging.
                            -No promises
-All recruits interested in my school are fair game (pipeline state or not)
-All recruits not interested in my school are hands off except for two rules:
                            1. They are in your pipeline state and are rated same as your school or lower.
                            2. The special rule: 1O/1D player can be saught after with no regard to pipeline states BUT can only be rated one star above (or lower) compared to school value.

NOTE: Some states obviously have few recruits so when not enough players are available you can go into adjacent states (even if not pipeline) but you must attain to the star rating rule.

Just my way of making recruiting fun!

Why did you promise 15 recruits they wouldn't be redshirted? My rule is to only redshirt the freshman who won't make an immediate impact on my team their first year on campus. Therefore I won't promise a recuit he won't redshirt if I know theyr'e going to be down there on the depth chart. Just to keep it real, ya know.
