Worst matchup possible for Brock. He can't take a punch and they put him in with the most dangerous HW striker in MMA. Should have given Mir/Overeem and Brock Big Nog.Comment

Overeem was offered a title shot for his first UFC Fight but he didn't want to wait too long so he's going to fight Lesnar.
I wouldn't be surprised if the UFC books Mir on the same card just in case Lesnar isn't healthy.Comment

Just glad that we didn't get Lesnar/Mir 3. There's no way Brock's going to get easy competition from here on out. White, Fertitta, and Joe Silva all realize he has a limited number of fights left, so he's going to get all the big names; no Kongo's or Rothwell's.
If I can do a little speculation, this is how I see HW playing out the next 6 months.
Cain vs. Dos Santos for title.
Brock vs. Overeem; winner gets title shot.
Mir vs. Nogueira in Japan; winner fights Cain/Dos Santos loser, loser fights Lesnar/Overeem loser.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

You are right regarding Brock, although I think he should be allowed at least 1 warmup fight. It's not like Brock is a 10-year vet. of the sport; he was already behind the curve when he got into the sport but his athleticism and power were enough to get him past his first 4 fights.
Missing all that time from training due to his health issues is tough for Brock, especially since the guys he is fighting now are bigger, stronger and faster than the Mir's, Couture's (love Randy, but he was way too small to hang with Brock) and Herrings of the world.
It will be an interesting fight and Brock will certainly bring the PPV numbers up for the UFC.Currently Playing:

I see your point but shouldn't they try to protect their biggest draw a little. The guy needs experience in taking punches and you put him against Overeem? If he loses, he is no longer a million ppv draw. Plus the guy is coming off surgery. Give him Nog or Rothwell and build him up a little.Comment

as others said i dont like this matchup for Brock. I wish he's get out of his comfort zone and go to some other camps to expand his game more and develop into a better fighter because he doesnt seem to get that much better from fight to fight. Both guys dont have the strongest chin so i see this one ending in the 1st round.Comment

I agree with you and DJ, they should have given Lesnar one warmup fight before Overeem. I'm not talking about a tomato can either, but someone he can hang with to get back into fighting. If this fight does happen, it should be rather interesting to see how Lesnar can defend against Overeems punches.Comment

Overeem is highly overrated, and it's not his punches brock should fear, it's thai clinch knee's - THAT is what could knock him out. Overeem is not the best puncher imo, and like others have said, his chin is suspect, going years back into K-1 where I've seen him get TKO'd on some pretty mediocre punches. I also disagree about Brock's CHIN, it's not weak, he doesn't get obliterated and go all rag doll, it's more like he doesn't like taking shots and has a hard time dealing with it. That's a big difference between the current version of Liddell that just foldes immediately when his chin is touched.
I think Brock CAN and should win this one, unless he gets put in the plum - than you can all say goodnight in unison lol.Liquor in the front, poker in the rear.Comment

However you want to characterize Brock's chin is fine with me, but it's painfully apparent that his stand up defense is awful. There's no way around it, he turtles up when he takes punches, and not even the power shots either. It's like he goes into full panic mode.
Don't get me wrong I have always wanted to see this match up, but not like this. Honestly if Brock wins, I will finally agree with those who keep calling Overeem overrated. There's no way Reem should lose this fight, IMO.Comment
