    DJ's NHL 12 All-Star Sliders

I'm throwing my hat into the slider ring once again with NHL. I thought last year's set was well-received, so those that used my NHL 11 sliders will be fairly familiar with these settings.

    Period Length: 10 min
    Offsides: Delayed
    Icing: On
    Injuries: On
    Peanlties: Max
Post Whistle Rules: Relaxed (too many double minors with Authentic, imo)
    Penalty Time Scaling: 5

    Skill Level: All-Star
    Game Style: Current

    Tuner Set: V 1.1
    CPU Aid: Hardcore
    Broken Stick Freq.: 2
    Game Speed: 5 (BIG CHANGE)
    Attribute Effects: Max
    Fatigue Effect: 4/4
    Fatigue Recovery: 3/3
    Injury Occurrence: 4/4
    Puck Control: 1/1
    Player Acceleration: 1/1 (CHANGE)

    Created Plays: On
    AI Learning: Max
CPU Difficulty: 0 (adjust if games become too one-sided in your favor)
    CPU Strategy: 3
    Be A Pro Strategy: 3
    HUM Strategy: 0
CPU Faceoff Difficulty (I stink at these, so adjust accordingly based on skill): 4
Fight Difficulty: 3 (again, I stink at fighting)
    CPU Penalties: Max
    CPU Teammate Penalties: Max

Pass Assist: 3 (you could go lower, but this helps with animations)
    Manual Passing: On
    Pass Speed: 2
    Saucer Pass Speed: 3
    Pass Accuracy: 0/0
    Pass Reception: 1/1
    Pass Interceptions: 3/3

    Shot Accuracy: 1/1
    Shot Power: 3/3
    Slap Shot Accuracy: 1/1
    Slap Shot Power: 3/2
    One Timer Accuracy: 3/3

    Hitting Assistance: 1
    Aggression: Max
    Hitting Power: 1/1
    Stick Lift: 2/2
    Poke: 1/1

    Goalie Passing: 3
    Goalie Cover Puck Freq.: 4
    Goalie Screen: 3/6
    Goalie Reaction: 4/2

This is purely optional, but I am using AUTO AIM this year. I think it will help with the goal variety, but again, this is not required.

I'm open to feedback, so play some games, report your results and we'll see what needs to be tweaked going forward.

    Happy gaming.

I will give these a shot. The default sliders are making me rage. 5 goals scored against me in 3 games, and not a single goal scored for me.
I wish EA would give us a way to better affect the skating speed.
I feel like my forwards will never be as fast as the D. Maybe a separate forwards and defense speed slider. I want my guys to be fast, but it seems ridiculous to have guys skating backwards as fast as my fastest forward does normally...

I'm getting real good results from the current setup. You will notice a clear difference between elite and scrub teams. I took Toronto into Pittsburgh and got my butt handed to me, 6-1.

I then matched up two lower-level teams, NY Islanders (CPU) @ Colorado and I managed to win 2-1 thanks to 2 goals by Milan Hejduk.

Hopefully these sliders will transfer over to Be A GM without requiring further tweaking. Last year, Be A GM games played completely different from Play Now games.

Hey DJ, I'm using a nearly identical setup and have had pretty good results so far.

I'm 5 games into a BEAGM and currently 4-1-0. Most of the stats are coming along nicely... shot totals, penalties, face offs, TOA, etc.

The 4-1 start has me a little worried about difficulty, but there have been long stretches in each game where the cpu completely dominated me. So I'll have a better idea after I play more games.

The only things I have different are 13 minute periods, pass reception 0/0, and pass assist at 3(I'm not too good with it any lower..).

I've had a blast with the game so far, and I would post some game stats, but I just realized you can't go back a get those after the fact... The Show has me spoiled, but I'll start posting some stats from here on out.

Good to hear. I'll keep an eye out on CPU Difficulty; the game plays differently (developers won't admit it, but it's true) in Play Now than Be A GM. If you continue to win, you could bump up that slider another click or two.

Hey DJ...the sliders I'm currently using are very similar to yours. Very similar.

The only real difference is, I have my aggression slider maxed...and the cpu's at 3. So far in my BEAGM, I'm 0-2-1. Man...I sux!

I'm on a very similar set up and am 2-5-1 in my Be a GM. I've switched my sliders to your exact settings and am going to experiment a little.

I'm pretty sure you have an awesome base here DJ.

Edit. Super smooth stuff. I had the game speed and player acceleration set too low. This feels perfect. I lost 1-0 to Ontario as the Rangers, giving up the winner with less than a minute left in the 3rd, ouch.

I really like the way that the CPU will actually miss passes and basically feel a little more fallible. The goalie is still a brick wall to me but I'm working on it.

I think I agree regarding auto aim as well, the goals that I do score seem to be a little more varied.

Glad you are enjoying the sliders. I tried to make the game as sloppy as possible. I've found that, thanks to some tips from other posters, if I don't chase the puck on defense and play my position, the CPU will turn the puck over on their own. I like that.

Goalies are tough, but fair. Last year I had CPU reaction at 0-2 as I couldn't score with the slider any higher. I just left things at default for this year and I'm getting good results so far.

Well now I'm 2-9-1 on a 7 game losing streak. Sadly I don't have time to become good at this game and it's starting to become far more frustrating than fun. Seeing as I can only play for an hour or so every few days I'm going to try lowering the CPU goalie reaction because they are just brick walling me each and every game.

Otherwise these sliders play great! The CPU is certainly challenging for a guy like myself.

I hear ya on the time aspect, Guffers. I haven't played in several days myself, but am hoping to get in some games tonight and tomorrow.

Definitely tweak the sliders to get the results you want. Lowering CPU Goalie Reaction a couple of clicks should help your offense out.

Before I went to bed last night I tried one more game with pass assist raised to 3. I actually won 5-3 vs the Jets. I think my stick skills are too sloppy to be competitive with it at 2. At 3 I was attempting trickier passes and creating better chances. I'm hoping this is the tweak that saves me from a world of frustration.

Too bad I have to go to work for 10 hours and all I want to do is sit on the couch and play NHL.

Thanks for the sliders DJ they really do feel great.

Ok..tried these...now, I've only played ONE game. AND, I play using position lock. I was Pitts playing against Toronto.

I finally won the game 6-4. But, what I am seeing is what I saw and heard about last year on ALL STAR, and that's the "ping pong" scoring. Meaning, you score, then suddenly they have a mass burst of speed and energy and score. This happened 3 times. I also saw my OWN player pass the puck to a Toronto player behind my net, who then passed to his player out front and scored. No idea what team my teammate thought he was on.

The shots: 48 Tor to 35 Pitts. So I might lower the per mins to 9.
I actually had penalties in this game: Tor 0/4 and Pitts 3/6

Overall, good start, but definitely need tweaking. I might put CPU Diff at 0 because that might be the cause for the "sudden" comeback scoring.

Note: The cross crease scoring is back again (what is wrong with EA??). You can easily skate across the crease and score.

                            Hey DJ,

Any update on these? They play pretty good, but I think I'm going to lower the CPU DIFF to 0. I was playing as USA against Japan using position lock. After the first period, I was up 2-0 and shots were 19 - 0.

Suddenly, Japan goes into overdrive! They score 2 quick goals, every pass was accurate and amazingly, they started to beat me to EVERY puck! How can a player with speed lower than 75 beat a player with speed of 85+ ?? They didn't play like "Japan", it was as though they all got some rating boosts. I believe this is because of the DIFF slider. Any thoughts? Or updates?

Steven, sorry I'm just now seeing this, I've been real busy the past few days and haven't been able to get on OS much, and have had even less time to play NHL. So, no changes from me as of now.

Feel free to tweak the sliders to your needs. I simply provide the base and then the individual adjust to their own style of play. The CPU does get more aggressive when behind, but with CPU Difficulty at zero, I had too big of an advantage in both shots and time on attack. Try it at zero and let me know how the stats look and how the CPU plays when behind.
