How did 2k nail commentary so well?

The commentary in this game is absolutely the best I have ever heard, it sounds like they are doing the commentary live as you play.

commentary is great. in previous games, it kinda felt like it was there because it had to be; but it's really engaging this year. best i've heard in a sports game to date

The commentary is amazing, especially when you dive into the Legends Mode. I haven't even played a full game yet, and I'm already impressed by what I've heard. Steve Kerr is a nice addition.

Very, very good. My first game was with the classic Pistons and they must have had 5 or 6 seperate little stories on Mark Aguire. I mean I love Mark but in the past a guy like that would be lucky to have 2 seperate mentions.

I like how Steve Kerr kind of stammers when he talks -- gives it an authentic feel, doesn't seem overly rehearsed like other games. One in particular, has a voice pitch that is all over the place and you can tell what sentences are pieced together. As for 2K, it flows naturally. They are the standard when it comes to quality sports video game commentary.

Gus Johnson's voice pitch is all over the place and you can tell what sentences are pieced together. As for 2K, it flows naturally. They are the standard when it comes to quality sports video game commentary.

I am starting to think 2k just puts them in the booth and lets them do the games live as people are playing and it isn't scripted at all. This seems like the obvious way of doing commentary for video games and I know other people have suggested this same concept to Madden and I don't know why they haven't used it yet.

Simple answer....going above and beyond what people expect and pushing the envelope instead of being satisfied with mediocracy because you know gamers will accept it. You can give just enough and have people satisfied or you can give more and have people in awe

As someone who's been very critical of NBA 2k's commentary...I must say, what I've heard so far while playing the game has been impressive.

One of the shocking things is how much content they had for Legends mode.

Plays Bulls vs. Sonics yesterday and the commentary was amazing. I remember one line being about how Gary Payton didn't want the Thunder to retire his jersey because he as loyal to Seattle and still pushing to get a team there. Then Steve Kerr made some witty reference to himself on the court. I was very pleased.

Too bad 2k did not do the same for the crowd. The crowd sounds out of place with the commentary and gameplay.

This commentary is incredible. I only wish the other sports would get on this level, especially football.
