From what I'm gathering, we can't. Say what you want about the old EA series, but they had that great feature where they had a nice chunk of the HOF, & you could add players to their teams.
For example, what if I want to see Jordan play w/Derrick Rose, bringing eras of the Bulls together? Why go through all the trouble of creating Jordan, & then 1)making me "earn" him somehow (what, $60 wasn't enough?), & 2)limiting what you do with him.
Who doesn't want to see if Jerry West or Oscar Robertson can compete in today's NBA? & can you imagine, with all the effort/money 2K spent on creating the Kevin Duckworths of the world---they could've instead just created most of the Hall of Fame...
If Wilt, Bird, et al are playable any way you like, god bless, that's the way it should be. But like Madden & their legends this year ("let's create legends & then restrict them to a silly trading card/fantasy BS mode!")...what a waste of a lot of effort & time if not.
