Online is pure cheese right now

This is more so an observation from playing several games online (takes ages to find a match right now for some reason).. my experience online has been terrible.. I really feel this game has taken a step back online and I will play offline exclusively until these issues are dealt with..

All my games have felt 2k9/2k10ish.. 2k11 was absolutely amazing online for me and I rarely had any bad experiences.. I finished online at 79-25.. the games always felt sim.. when someone tried to full court press I punished them..

    This year's edition:

    1. When the opposing team starts to full court press, you can't pass up court because the AI still has ninja skills at deflecting and stealing passes (this was here to deter lead passing). Full court press also means that you can't turbo up with the guard in the half court because you get stuck into 'pushing the ball ahead animation' and dribble it off the defender, turn it over, and have them score.. this has happened to me a few times already and I've been getting full court pressed consistently throughout each game.

    2. People just run around mashing the steal button (reminiscent of old 2k games).. you were punished for this in 2k11 and the defender rarely got the ball that way.. now at least 1/3-4 tries will get them to either strip the ball off your guard (eg. I used CP3, Conley/Mayo, Joe Johnson/Crawford, Felton/Roy mainly for ball handling). I've had every single person I faced so far just run next to my guy and tap steal every play down the floor..

    3. 3 pt percentage and shooting percentages are sky high.. I've only had one game with the Blazers (me) vs Hawks where we got mid 40's.. all my other games were 60%-70% for both teams.. too many guys are great 3 pt shooters.. and you can pretty much spot up with anybody and hit it over and over again.. I had about 7 3's with Belinelli in one game, and with Durant vs the Lakers I had 38 pts on 15/17 shooting, many shots were open that game but it just felt far too easy to hit every shot I wanted..Hinrich shot 9/14 3's versus me in that Blazers game.. and I've already lost to two game winning 3's in the dying seconds and both were heavily contested..

How is your online experience so far?

I'm not much if an online ranked match type guy.....but I'll play every now and then....Ive played 1, yes...1 ranked match since the game came out...I was just testing the water to see what it was gonna be like this year.....the guy I played nailed shot after shot with Durant...spammed the steal button and fullcourt pressed all game too..... That was my first and final online game until some sort of patch comes out....

I know I shouldn't judge the online experience off of one game....and I don't feel that I am....my friend, he's constantly playing online matches....and he cries the same thing every game he plays in the party.... I don't see how he keeps going back for more and more....I'll stick to the My Player frustration....at least in the end win or lose....I'm getting skill points and not just a loss on my record.....

        UK Wildcats......

2k11 rewarded people who actually know how to play the game. My buddy was in the top 200 and I had a 70% winning percentage and was beating top guys.

Fast forward to 2k12. I'm .500 and he is 1 game over .500. We both have the same experience. People mashing the steal button all the way up the court. It's way too easy to take the game over with stars. I've had Rudy Gay sink a game winning three over Grant Hill and a 6'11 Marcin Gortat. I've had Melo drop fadeaways like it was nobody's business. It's a chore to play online with all the cheesers. I had genuine fun in 2k11 but now it feels like a bore because I'm playing the same strategy every time

I played online once and the other guy got called for tons of reach in fouls, never once successfully stealing it and shot 2/21 from 3

Steals are fine imo. Because this year it actually matters if you protect the ball or not. If you have a defender on the right put the ball in your left hand and you will get a foul. If he tries to run to you and get a steal go into protect dribble and you will get a foul, etc. Ask yourself what are you doing with the ball before crying out that it's broken.

Yeah, i'd rather be getting hop stepped, euro stepped, and spin dunked on.....and miss wide open 3's with people who are more than capable of hitting them.

The three point problem is mostly because of 2k just giving every average three point shooter higher ratings than they should have. If they actually rated them closed to correct then maybe that wouldn't be a problem. If they did that and actually called reach in fouls like they should when somebody consistently swipes at the ball then i would have no problem with ranked matches.

I normally don't play online with 2K because there is rarely (RARELY) any sim games!!

Ppl use one player and shoot 20-30 shots and you can't stop them because 2K defensive system sucks.

2K11 was the same way but 2K12 is worse.

Now all you have to do is run and hit the steal button because there are few reaching fouls.

The 3pt aren't to bad, its the defense, leaving players open.

The passing period (online worse) is bad!

Fix those and 2K12 online will be much better.

So far it does seem like 2k12 is a step back. I'm not that pessimistic about it. 2k11 was a spin dunkfest before the patch. It wasnt so I stopped playing it online. After the patch it took months before people started talking about those post spins in 2k11.

<O</O2k12 is probably further along than 2k11 though it reeks of many of the same issues. Big men still have terrible pass ratings. Oden has a 25 in passing. A cross court pass out of the post might take an open shooter out of bounds with Oden's passing yet I can still throw fullcourt strikes with Oden. Why is it so difficult to balance the cherry picking passes and why does the 'Insider' give out 25 ratings like its nothing?<O</O
                      <O</O
<O</OThe defensive stance took a step back. The CPU plays much better onball defense but they dont contest shots so I often find myself switching when I think someone is going to shoot. <O</O
                      <O</O
I cant complain. In my last game against the Bulls Korver and Rose couldnt hit much so the three point shooting isnt that bad. Its still over powered. Certain dunks are still too strong like the one where the defender catches the guy or anything out of a spin.<O</O

Sorry, but you must be the only one seeing this. What I am seeing is the ball being ripped out from triple threat and basic standing dribble, nothing fancy, just trying to set up a play. Not mid cross over, not mid move, just protecting the ball waiting for guys to get into position to run the play. It's actually easier to protect the ball by holding RT, and run around like a 4 year old in a playground.

Or maybe if the oponent PG is agressive try pressing traingle (for protect dribble)... And when doing tripple threat go into the protective stance ...

Come back at me if they still rip the ball from you.

I agree with Knickerbocker, steals are fine ... at least on ball steal, not the telekinetic passing lane steals tho ... on ball steal due to the new ball living physics are more likely, thus they have given us the ways to fight it ... one has to be more aware of the defender actions ... like what he said, one needs to be aware from where the steal is attempted and change the ball to the other hand to get a foul called ... yes even when orchestrating a play ... also the protect the ball animations are great aids ...

I have only played 4 online vs games tho (havent been able to play again since last weekend due to 2k online issues), 2 vs my bro and 2 vs my bro best friend ... and both are the classic extreme unsim players that never stop seeking for on ball steals, they just harras the opponent and usually got 10+ on ball steal in 2k11 (the 2k12 unskilled must fear those type indeed) ... and against both, I have only suffered an average of 2 on ball steals and got 20+ FT attempts on each game! ... not even possible in 2k11 (sliders free) games ... then again, I suffer from around 15 TOs, mostly from bad pass choices and bad congestioned dribble choices, but also due a significant portion due to physic passing lanes steals (at least 8+) ... still acclimating my self to the game.

Also, played 1 quick teamup game and did not loose the ball once, due to an on ball steal, despite the opponent (random, noone I know) spaming the steal button and me having Perkins, whose ball security and handlings arent even near the average.

There is a learning curve from 2k11 and is an apparent steep one as we were not used to be aware at all moments.
