I'm finding it really hard to dunk in this game

Anyone else got this issue? Like when I go for a dunk, even the paint is completely open, my players end up doing a boring layup or a runner. It's like you have to be right up close to the rim to get the dunk animation to work, and even then they annoyingly go for layups even if I have RT held down and even when the paint is empty.

Check your player's Dunk tendency.

I've never had that issue.

When I'm in the paint, I'm bashing it (depending on the player, of course).

Actually i've never had a problem with this much. Who are you trying to dunk with? Also you could try holding the stick different directions, i know that holding it back is pretty much a guaranteed reverse dunk if you have room.

It's proportionate to the real NBA. Dunks are actually rare and exciting.

so why is it that the CPU can dunk anytime it wants with any player?

They can't in my experience.

It's proportionate to the real NBA. Dunks are actually rare and exciting.

Rare? I'm pretty sure young athletic players (a la Lebron, D.Rose) and good big men (Pau Gasol, Amare Stoudemire) get at least 2 dunks per game. I wouldn't call that rare.
Of course the OP never said what type of players he was dunking with.

And, OP, your problem might be (if you use shot stick) you might be not be holding it. I find if you let go of the shot stick to early it will do a lay-up or a pull up.

I agree with, for me it is (with offline frame rate downgrade too) the ''problem'' of this game .I have to change game slides in first and (best improvement) change default control in control A or control whan for spin you have just to push B so you will have more chances to have a dunk, my record (match that i am looking only for dunks (8 min x qrt)) is 14 dunks with lakers 97-98 just after 12 dunks with heat 2012.

And you think you have a problem with dunks!? as someone else said early presses of the shot stick will result in a layups not dunks, you have to be nearer the rim this year as far as i can tell, also dont hold turbo its almost a flick and hold of the shot stick and press + hold turbo all at the same time when close enough.

That maybe false, i have posted on several of these topics just as confused as most, but i stayed up till 3am this morning trying to figure this out and it seemed to work

Nothings hard about dunking in game. On 360 it's Right Trigger + Shot Stick in either direction while moving within close proximity of the basket, or in the paint. Notice I said moving.

If you think your going to dunk every possession it won't happen. I'd suggest laying off turbo until your close enough to dunk depending on what the defense gives you. Don't force it or you will get rejected and most likely turn the ball over.

don't expect nor do i want to dunk on every possession, that is not the gamestyle for me.

But if i get in the paint and there is only one player between me and the rim and he is stood directly under it, then if i choose to dunk i should be able to.

Havent really had too much of a problem dunking. Playing 5 min qts I get about 7-8 dunks a game.

Check your player's Dunk tendency.

No. Dunk tendency has no bearing on this issue. Dunk tendency is only for how often the CPU dunks with that player.

Issues could be

1. It isn't easy to dunk in real life. Lets put that out there first and foremost.
2. Bumping/Forced animations
3. Dunk rating of player (also dunk rating slider)
4. Dunk in traffic slider
5. Fatigue level of player.

What is nonsense about it?

I question if this is user error because if the lane is as open as you all say, then a dunk should happen 100% of the time with someone capable. I would like to see a video of you all having issues doing it with an open lane. Again, I question what you all consider open.

2 Dunks per game compared to any other 2k is rare...
