There are two things you can do to stop a scrambling QB and both can be used either simultaneously or one at a time. A) utilizing a LB spy, preferably the MLB (especially in the 4-3) as he can keep a better eye on the QB from behind the DT’s/NT. B) DE Contain, which keeps the QB from breaking outside the pocket by positioning themselves outside the OT’s normal reach and basically wait for the QB to try and make a run for it.

Combined with a zone blitz, for example, with the MLB stays to spy on the QB and the DE’s contain and oh let’s say a Safety blitzes…. the QB will scramble to avoid the Safety only to meet either the DE’s outside the pocket or the MLB as he tries to scurry up the middle. In a 4-3, your OLB’s need to be in short hook zones; in a 3-4 the real fun begins when you can alternate who’s in a hook zone and who’s blitzing amongst your three remaining LB’s. Same thing goes for the 46, although I can’t see why anyone would have a problem with a scrambling QB in the 46 anyhow.
