    Stern HAS to be fired...

Keeping this seperate from trades etc and just on Stern.

Today was amateurish beyond belief. To allow this to brew all week and then step in when it's already done = incomprehensible. Unless he was asleep at his desk all week, he had to know this was happening. It's just unbelievable.

You now have a situation where one team basically has a star player who cannot be traded...who'll now walk for nothing. You now have a siutation where one of the most professional teams in the NBA, the Rockets, have basically been completely screwed. They were innocents in this...and could have got an AS big man + Nene with the extra cap room. They now have a completely ripped apart team with key locker room guys in Martin and Scola badly burnt.

Just an absolute disgrace and Stern has to be fired IMO. Forget LA and percieved bias, Houston got completely screwed today and NO will be a train wreck all season and then get nothing.

    Fire Stern NOW.

Re: Stern HAS to be fired...

Definitely is a ****ed up situation and could've and should've been handled better(like going by their word that no deals/trades/any type of agreement could be made until Friday).

Don't see him being fired in the technical sense of the word but at least we know he won't be back in 6 years when either the Owners or Players can opt out the CBA.

He needs to go right now. Everyone knew Paul was available...everyone. Every team. Every agent. Every fan.

To allow it all to brew for a week and then be completed...players and their families told they'll be moving city...

And then say "umm, maybe not".

Man, it just screams of incompetence OR the guy was asleep all week. He has looked mentally shot for years. The NBA needs a fresh face desperately.

Re: Stern HAS to be fired...

Stern does the bidding of the owners and just did what presumably the majority of the owners wanted so...

Also regardless of if this had happened he probably wouldn't have been back for the next CBA since he's pushing 70.

But yes push Stern out for Adam Silver and see how well that goes. If Stern still had Granik I'd feel ok when Stern steps down but I have no faith what so ever in Adam Silver.
As Shaquille O'Neal left the Suns practice court, he yelled out, "Alvin's the coach. We must be the Clippers. And I must be Olowokandi. Nooooo!"

            He wont be fired

If they didnt fire him for allowing the travesty in 02 and so many other debacles, this one surely wont get it done

He'll be retired soon anyway and allow his buddy Silverman to take over, whom im sure he'll consult for, for awhile

I think you don't realize the NBA runs the Hornets because they have no owner.

Re: Stern HAS to be fired...

You can also blame Dan Gilbert for this. Here is a copy of an email he sent to Mr. Stern:

                  "Commissioner,

It would be a travesty to allow the Lakers to acquire Chris Paul in the apparent trade being discussed.

This trade should go to a vote of the 29 owners of the Hornets.
Over the next three seasons this deal would save the Lakers approximately $20 million in salaries and approximately $21 million in luxury taxes. That $21 million goes to non-taxpaying teams and to fund revenue sharing.
I cannot remember ever seeing a trade where a team got by far the best player in the trade and saved over $40 million in the process. And it doesn’t appear that they would give up any draft picks, which might allow to later make a trade for Dwight Howard. (They would also get a large trade exception that would help them improve their team and/or eventually trade for Howard.) When the Lakers got Pau Gasol (at the time considered an extremely lopsided trade) they took on tens of millions in additional salary and luxury tax and they gave up a number of prospects (one in Marc Gasol who may become a max-salary player).

I just don’t see how we can allow this trade to happen.
I know the vast majority of owners feel the same way that I do.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

                  Please advise….
                  Dan G."

First this guy was one of the hardline owners who dragged on the lockout (and I'm sure he was one of the 5 owners who rejected the new CBA), and now he wants the commissioner to reject (in what I think is a fair deal- coming from a Heat fan)the CP3 trade...

I'm glad the trade was vetoed. I mean for god sake, at least give your team 3-5 teams that you'd be willing to play for. That "trade me to the Lakers or I won't agree to go anywhere else even though I'm not supposed to have a choice in the matter anyway" **** is ridiculous.

When the hell did he say that? The lakers just had the best offer and they, the hornets, agreed to it. You think the gm is going to be like you know what I'm going to trade you to a team you want to go to and get less in return.

No way, it just so happened to be that LA was one of the teams he wanted to go to and had the best offer. The Lakers still didn't have concrete info on him resigning with them anyways so your point is moot.

But yeah what you said makes sense...keep chris paul in a hornets jersey and let him walk for nothing at the end of the season.

He said it in the article where the Hornets said the Celtics offered them the best deal and they agreed to it but then CP3 told them that the only team he would sign with was the Lakers so therefore they had to take the Lakers offer.

                        From A. Sherrod Blakely (@SherrodbCSN)

"#Celtics were confident they were on the verge of landing Paul. Source says they were already planning a physical for him."

Reporters in Boston are getting word from the Celtics FO that the Celtics offered Rondo, Green, 2 firsts (including the Clippers pick this year), and Avery Bradley. The Hornets liked this deal the best, approved the trade, but CP3 nixed the deal and threatened to not show up at camp if he wasn't dealt to the Lakers. This lines up with Stern saying he didn't want CP3 to be able to dictate where he goes.

Also, to those upset who say the deal was fair in terms of the players NOH was receiving, that is not the issue. The issue is that NOH was having to TAKE ON $15 mil in salary to make the deal work financially for LA. So LA was shifting their bad salary cap situation onto a league owned team. This means the owners would be on the hook for that $15 mil, and they balked.

The Lakers deal was not the best deal. Basically it was the Rockets who were giving the majority of valuable assets.

That Celtics deal was way better.

Uhh no? Why should the hornets care about what Chris Paul thinks? That's on the Celtics man. If Boston nixed the deal it would make sense but to say that the Hornets nixed the deal cause Chris Paul wouldn't play in Boston doesn't make any sense. (If I misunderstood you my bad)
