You're stuck in salary cap hell.

Happens to teams with poor front office management.

Only way to get under the cap, is to release your highest paid player that has a $0 signing bonus, or a very small bonus at that. The bonus is what affects the salary cap via "dead money."

When you release a player with a non existent signing bonus, you are freed from his yearly salary, and you have no guaranteed money to pay him.

Damn, That's AJ Green. I was going to try and trade him after this season anyway as his contract is due and he going to be getting older and I like having younger players in my starting spots. I know he isn't that old but...

If I trade him will it do the same effect or will I still take the hit?

How can I avoid this situation down the road?

I don't know these things that well, but I'm pretty sure when a player is traded his contract goes with him, so trading him should clear the space

Trading him DOES NOT clear his cap number.

When you trade players, you still owe them their guaranteed money that goes on the books the next season as "dead money"

To avoid this in the future, dont be so lavish with the contracts handed out. Don't be afraid to let some players walk when their contract is up. Signing them and then trading them does you no good in regards to the salary cap.

Depending how realistic you want your franchise to be, you can change your highest paid players to punters and resign them freeing up a ton of salary cap space.

It's real shady. When NFL teams get into bad cap situations they have to release players.

Well....your asking for help...that was one suggestion. The other is deal with your failure as a GM.

Cut AJ Green. And then fire yourself.

Lol.. I just noticed apparently I inked Tomlin to a deal worth 7m a year.. Can I fire him once the season has started? Would that clear cap space? I know I'm new to franchise mode I normally do online play

Re: Salary cap problems in year 4

You can't fire a coach during the season on Madden.

This kind of thing happens to a lot of people because they keep trading players and signing big name free agents. The money is eventually going to catch up to you unless you have the foresight to get rid of players who take up a lot of cap space as you take on more high paid players. You're going to have to suck it up and cut somebody with a low or nonexistent signing bonus.

Trading a highly paid player will usually just leave you with a cap penalty for next season and you'll probably have the same problem again. If AJ Green is important to your team, then keep him and cut someone else. He can't be that old and good WRs aren't easy to come by. Find a unit where you have a bunch of good players and can afford to lose one. Like if you have three really good linebackers, you can afford to lose one and have 2/3 really good linebackers. Next time, plan ahead and avoid this situation. There's usually one high paid, older player who you can afford to let go or maybe you have a good young player who could use some playing time.

In my franchise, I let somebody go every season so I could have some decent cap space to work with. At the end of my first season, I let Chris Gamble go. In my second season, I let Steve Smith go. Steve Smith was my best WR, but I had a rookie who I started in his place the next season. That's the kind of stuff you have to do as a GM. It sucks to part ways with great players, but you have to make choices for the franchise.

I feel sorry for you man, I've never ran into cap problems. I have like a 43 mil cap space since most of my players are young they only cost around 1 mil each, except for some around 9 mil.

You're going to have to get rid of someone good to help clear cup space, ch is never easy

Welcome to real life...or at least a simulation of it.

Start by cutting veteran backups and sign lesser players to replace them. This is where the game's undrafted free agents can be helpful....they are cheap and imminently replaceable.

It's a tough spot, but navigating through it and remaining successful can be very rewarding.

my OLine and CBs seem to be the most expensive so thats where i start the cutting. In my Panthers franchise, i usually cut Captain Munnerlyn koz he wants a huge contract but i stick with Brandon Hogan and Chris Gamble.

You can afford to have cheap OLineman who are strong with some potential.
