The Coaching Career of Andrew O'Hearn (CH 2K8)

So it begins! After many, many hours spent playing the legendary College Hoops 2k8, I figured it was time to document my latest career legacy. My write-ups will be pretty short and sweet, I won't get too fancy with this as I'm just doing this for fun

    Rosters: Raiderfan's 2011/2012 rosters

Sliders: rspencer86's 20-Minute All Conference Sliders
I really enjoy rspencer's AC sliders for their realism. If, down the road, it gets too easy or unrealistic, I may make adjustments. If any adjustments are made, they'll likely be minor. I have the most fun with these sliders and it gets to be less fun if I am constantly changing things.

    Coach Profile

Offensive Philosophy: Balanced, slow down sometimes, speed it up others. Look for the fast break.
Defensive Philosophy: Strict man-to-man defense, everyone has an assignment and sticks to it. Tight pressure.
    Alma-mater: Creighton
    Top 5 Dream Schools:
    1. Creighton
    2. Wisconsin
    3. Nebraska
    4. Oregon

Re: The Coaching Career of Andrew O'Hearn (CH 2K8)

Brooklyn, NY - A crowd of several hundred students and faculty gathered for an announcement earlier today regarding a change within St. Francis College athletics. The men's basketball team has hired a new coach, after previous head coach Glenn Braica unexpectedly vacated his position this summer.
Braica's replacement is a first year head coach, 28 year old Andrew O'Hearn, who has spent the last 4 years coaching at the high school level in North Dakota.
"To go from playing at Creighton, to coaching small time basketball in North Dakota, and now coaching college basketball in New York. That's quite a ride," O'Hearn said, "I'm putting all that behind me. It's my job now to lead this school into a new era. It won't be easy, but I welcome the challenge. This is a unique opportunity, St. Francis has yet to make an appearance in the NCAA tournament. That's my goal here. I want people to get excited about this team."

Terriers Carry Game to OT, Fall Short
          November 9, 2007

Brooklyn, NY - It was Coach Andrew O'Hearn's first game leading the Terriers of St. Francis as Hartford(1-1) came to town on opening night. The results, however, were not what he had desired for his game as head coach.
"I don't know what to say about this performance. Sloppy and inconsistent. Ugly. Despite taking this game to overtime, we have some work to do," O'Hearn said as he headed for the locker room following the Terriers 54-52 loss in overtime. Sloppy and inconsistent were certainly applicable to both sides, shooting percentages were under 50% for both teams.
St. Francis rallied from a 34-18 deficit in the second half to eventually send the game to overtime on a game-tying Ben Mockford 3 pointer, with 7 seconds to go. With the team trailing and 3 seconds left in overtime, Mockford tried to be the hero again, but was unable to get the game winner to fall.
The Terriers start the season 0-1 and their next game is at St. John's of the Big East.

St. Francis Gives St. John's a Scare
                  November 14, 2007

Queens, NY - The Terriers took to the road across New York City to take on St. John's. While many might have dismissed this game as a favorable victory for the Red Storm, Coach O'Hearn of the Terriers had other plans in mind. This was a game to remember, one that went down to the wire.
Throughout the entire game, neither team led by more than 7 points and the Terriers held a 46-39 lead with under 3 minutes to go, looking for the upset.
It was the dominating performance of St. Francis' big men that gave them that lead.

"Johnson, Milk, Perunicic. These guys carried the team today. They were pulling down those boards like nobody's business and giving us second chances," Coach O'Hearn stated in the post-game press conference.

While the big men were dominating the glass, the Terriers were also committing a smattering of fouls, totaling 25 to St. John's 9. Several trips to the free throw line late led to a St. John's comeback as they went on an 11-2 run inside of one minute to go, giving them a 51-48 lead.
Ben Mockford, much like last game, put up a 3 with 4.5 seconds left, but he could only watch as the ball clanked off the side of the rim. St. John's was immediately fouled and knocked down one of two free throws to put the game away 52-48.

"It's a tough loss to stomach, on one hand I'm so proud of how well we handled this game and that we could compete with a team on another level. But on the other hand, we really should have put this game away. This is the second time we couldn't close the game out. As a coach you wonder where you're going wrong when it comes down to close games like this."

Key Stat: St. John's was 28/39 from the free throw line.

It was over when... SG Ben Mockford missed an open, game-tying 3 pointer with 4.5 seconds to go. St. John's was fouled and sent to line with 2.4 seconds left, where they made a free throw to put the game away.

Maine Fends Off Late Rally by St. Francis, 62-53
                    November 17, 2007

Orono, ME - The Maine Black Bears ability to fire from 3 point range and size inside were a tough combination to defend against, as St. Francis struggled keeping up with the unpredictable offense throughout the game.
Maine had 3 players in double digit scoring, SF McLemore led the way with 19, PF Cato and C Fraser each had 14. They accounted for more than 2/3 of the team's scoring.
Maine went on an 18-1 run in the last 5 minutes of the first half to take a commanding 33-21 lead. St. Francis missed all of it's field goals in that time frame.
"We were lost, our offense was not in good form, we were taking terrible shots and we were severely out-rebounded. I made some big changes at half time. We had to push the ball down the floor quickly and force turnovers," said Coach O'Hearn on his team's first half performance. And this change in plans did work, the Terriers eventually were within 3 points, 44-41 midway through the second half.
Ben Mockford led the scoring effort for St. Francis, going 5-7 from 3 point range and totaling 21 points on the night. While they were able to get within one basket, Maine continued to pull away, drawing fouls and winning at the line. A last gasp effort in the final minute of play by the Terriers was perhaps too little, too late.
Maine would take their second win of the season 62-53. St. Francis remains winless at 0-3, with their next game hosting 2-0 Hofstra.

Douglas' Break-Out Performance Leads Terriers to First Win

                        November 21, 2007

Brooklyn, NY - November 21, 2007 is a day Coach Andrew O'Hearn likely won't forget, when his St. Francis Terriers beat Hofstra, 59-48. This win is his first as a head coach at the collegiate level.

The Terriers cruised to victory, led by SG Kevin Douglas, who had little playing time and no points in the first three games, who would end up as the leading scorer with 15 points, including 3 for 3 on 3 pointers.
"It's amazing when you see growth right before your eyes. Kevin hadn't shown this kind of ability, not in practices, not in games. He got hot and never looked back," said O'Hearn of his newest star.

St. Francis not only won this on the back of a solid offensive performance, but defensively they shut down the nation's leading scorer. Hofstra's Mike Moore averaged 33 points per game in his first two games. He was double teamed and met with heavy defensive pressure for the majority of the game. Moore walked away with 12 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists.

"We had a plan and executed it perfectly. We knew they lacked scoring outside of Moore, this guy had scored 33 points in both games Hofstra played. Take away Moore and the scale tips in our favor. I couldn't have asked for a better way to win our first game."

St. Francis improves to 1-3 on the year heading into their next game at Manhattan(2-2).
Hofstra takes their first loss of the year, falling to 2-1, their next game is at home against UNC Wilmington(1-3).

Early 7-0 Run Gives Terriers Edge in Win at Manhattan

                          November 24, 2007

Bronx, NY - Coming off their first win of the season, St. Francis looked to take down Manhattan on their own floor. If you were looking for fast-paced, high scoring basketball, then look elsewhere. Both teams feature slow tempo offenses, working the ball around and working the shot clock.
The first couple of minutes were a little different, when we saw St. Francis running up and down the floor, jumping out to a 9-2 lead, including a 7-0 run in that span.

Coach O'Hearn stated a change in his game-planning, "We knew what they were thinking coming into this game. We changed our pace right from the start to throw them off. Obviously, it was effective."

That it was, as the Terriers went on to win by 7 points, 55-48 and held the lead the entire game. SG Ben Mockford led all in scoring with 21 points and went a perfect 6-6 from the charity stripe.

St. Francis picks up another win to improve to 2-3. They play their final game of November at home, against Fairfield(3-1).
Manhattan will fall under the .500 mark at 2-3 as well. They will take on Fordham(3-2) at home.

I like the layout of this! I'm following. Man your games are so low scoring and you play on 20-minute halves? Wow! I must say you have more patience than myself, lol.

I average about 70 PPG in my legacy and I feel that is a bit on the low side, lol. Congrats on the first win!

                              Thanks man!
Yeah I haven't had this many low scoring games before, I've always played on 20 minute halves and get a pretty wide range of scoring totals. I do play a slow tempo offense, but even so, you'd think more points could be scored(granted, most of my players aren't highly rated being at a small school).
