Quarter length vs. Simmed Length

I've done some searching but I couldn't find an answer to this question, sorry if it's been asked before.

It seems a lot of people recommend 10-12 minute quarters for realistic stats, but what should I put the simmed quarter length to if I want realistic stats for games that I sim and other games in the league? I know the default setting has the sim quarters being longer than the ones I play, is that the way to go?

Edit: I should clarify that I'm most interested in having similar stats between played and simmed games.

Played- 9-11 minutes (depending on play style)
Simmed- always 12 minutes

I use 10- 12

Well in my player I play on 12 minute quarters and 12 minute sim, and in association I play on 10 min with 10 min sim, my preference is to keep both the same lengths because say you play on 5 minute quarters with 12 minute sim, if you score say 40 points a game the other teams will score at least double and have better stats. At least from my point of view.
