    Real Advertisments?

I have a question and didn't know where to ask it without starting a new thread. Is there in chance we could ever see real advertisting in The Show in the future? It would be pretty awesome and take the game to another level. I'm one of those guys that would really enjoy something like that. I know you just can't use a Pepsi or Coca-Cola sponser without getting permissing first and possibly paying a small fee. This is one area that 2K has over The Show.

It's a cost issue to be honest. Do the developers want to spend money on paying for others to advertise? Or do they want to funnel that money into something that will improve the game? If a company comes up to them or if they go to a company, it usually means that said company is paying SCEA to advertise.

Never give free space to advertisers, especially since that's a (I think small) money maker.

I've never understood this. It seems like a simple thing to me but what do I know. It seems like it would be a win-win if SCEA was allowed to use the real companies for free.

Companies pay millions and millions of dollars to have their logos and names on walls, billboards and just about anything around the ballparks. Wouldn't Under Armor, for example benefit by allowing their logos to be put on the outfield doors at Wrigley Field on the game? They get free advertising and the game gets more realistic. It seems pretty simple to me. I've often wondered why this stuff isn't in the game.

I'm surprised that online advertisement hasn't expanded in The Show. In previous years you would see subway advertisements around the stadium, but hardly anymore. About all I see now are ModNation advertisements.

You know, like in NHL 12. They have real life advertisements if you are plugged into the internet.

This has always been my thought. I guess I just don't understand how it all works.

The way I see it, if anyone is paying anyone, it should be the outside companies paying SCEA to advertise for them in the game. They don't have to do anything but sit back, let SCEA put their ads in the game, and enjoy the virtual advertisement.

I don't think you are. EA is notorious for doing this. As long as the advertisements look like they would in a real ballpark (you know, without the "TEXT 25523 FOR A FREE T-SHIRT" with exploding graphics and text you can't read), the I'd be fine with it.

That's what I was thinking. If I were running a company like Pepsi or Coca-Cola or Lowe's or something I would actually pay the SECA guys to put the ads in the game.

I just got F1 2010 and that game is absolutely loaded with real advertisting. It's stunning. I was surprised to see how many real ads are in NCAA Football 12 and Madden 12.

It might have to do with a specific clause in the MLB license not allowing SCEA to put real ads in the game....

And you are privy to all this inside information how exactly? I find it hard to believe that you honestly think you know exactly how this all done, and yet aren't employed by *any* game company.

If you are, and turns out you are Peter Moore, or whomever...then my apologies.

All legal and more complex than you think. Especially now that the player union is more involved than ever.

All I will say about that. The removal of Rawlings should tell you something. Out of Sony's hands for the most part.

I'm asking Perfect Zero to justify his answer. I'm tired of people with no affiliation, speaking as if they are the company themselves. Like I said, if he's actually affiliated with the company, or any gaming company, then I apologize.

I am not affiliated with SCEA, I think that's pretty clear. I speak from my experience with gaming with some law experience. If you want to start a flame war, that's your choice. As this is a public forum, I feel that I have the space to voice what I believe is the case using sound reasoning.

Why would SCEA pay out of their pockets for in game advertising? That doesn't make any sense. The team has in game advertising through companies like State Farm and Topps. It would make sense for SCEA to get money from advertisers for that space, and it wouldn't cost them to leave it un-sponsored if they couldn't find the money.

You know, it's a funny thing. But I almost never find myself getting sucked into advertising anymore. My internet browser has an effective ad-blocker, and my DVR lets me watch TV shows in a way so I can fast-forward past commercials. Since I tried satellite radio back in 2006, I've never gone back to the awful stuff on terrestrial radio, so I'm not longer drowned in ads like I used to be when listening to the radio either.

So, these days, watching sports is really the only big way an advertiser has any shot at reaching me anymore (short of putting together such a brilliant ad that it goes viral online and I end up actually seeking it out on YouTube because I've heard it's so good -- but, God, is that rare).

Because I have to watch sports live. So when I watch sports, I have no choice. I get the commercials and the stadium signs and the shoe-horned sponsored segments.

So a sports video game is really one of the only cases where I welcome real ads because it's just such a strong touch of authenticity. I can't watch sports without the ads, so it makes sense that a sports game with more authentic ads is going to feel more real to me.

Just like recording all your favorite programs and FF thru the commercials.

But, there is something to playing in a stadium with all the correct billboards like MVP modded stadiums.
