Online will make or break this game for me
Does anyone else feel that after reading all the early impressions that it won't matter if the online experience sucks? This game has always been great, but its always failed at the online experience. Last year was better , but I'm hoping this year is better. They always release this game with glitches on the online mode, some you can work around.

Re: Online will make or break this game for me
I really hope so, because it's always been a weakness of the series. I don't play with random people online (I hate cheesers), but I do have 2 or 3 close friends who I would like to play with.
With that said, we're mostly offline players anyway, so it's not a make or break thing, but I really do wish we can have the COMPLETE package one of these years, where online is at least great and the game is polished in every area. -
Re: Online will make or break this game for me
The hitting aspect of online will never get right. Too many chances for lag to run that part of the game. If you're only getting this for online play, you may need to look somewhere else."Never trust a big butt and a smile."-Ricky Bell

That's understandable, but there's a difference between not perfect and really subpar for today's standards.Comment

Online experience is a huge part of sports games, I love franchose and RTTS but you will get burned out quick. The best part of sports is competion, so.playing guys online is what sports is all about. If I'm looking for a game for offline experience then it won't be in the sports genre.Rick Young

Re: Online will make or break this game for me
I can live with timing issues that I can work with. I'm talking disconnects and simple things like wins recoding in league play. I hear they have a dedicated server this year, that should be awesome.
If you don't want to face cheesers I would suggest finding a good league. Baseball is one of those games you play for a hour and when a cheeser ruins it that sucks.Rick Young

Re: Online will make or break this game for me
Reviewers of sports games RARELY have any access to online, and when they do, it doesn't matter because nobody is online putting stress on the servers.
NBA 2k has online issues similar to the Show, and just like the Show, review scores never penalize them for poor online play.Comment

Re: Online will make or break this game for me
If they want a sports game of year award, then online must have long lasting appeal. I think the home run derby online could be money!! Think that's going to be fun. I played hone run derby with friends when I would have quest and they enjoyed it
Wonder if we can use RTTS custom players in derby, that would be cool if hes good enough to hang with the bog boysRick Young

Re: Online will make or break this game for me
It's been said the press has been given access to the online part including Diamond Dynasty for review purposes. I'm just repeating what's been said...Reviewers of sports games RARELY have any access to online, and when they do, it doesn't matter because nobody is online putting stress on the servers.

Right, the servers need to be put on some sort of stress test to say something about real user experiences... But still better than nothing at all though. What does it tell us if whatever few reviewers using online features already have poor experiences, haha.Comment

Re: Online will make or break this game for me
Just like Socom or Call of Duty, reviewers will kill you title if its lacking online appeal. Online is part of the game, but you are right they will talk about it, but won't penalize it much. I know they gave praise to the NBA 2K series because of how much fun online was. That series knows what they're doing with respect to online experience.Rick Young

Re: Online will make or break this game for me
How exactly is The Show's online a " fail " ? I was able to play a lot of online games in MLB 11 without any problems at all - no latency or lag. Some of the games had massive lag, but I'd have to chalk that up to the connection with my opponent and the problem was probably my opponent's connection ( downloading torrents, streaming video, etc.. ).Comment

Re: Online will make or break this game for me
I understand the original posters point and it would be nice to play online without most of the past issues but for me I am not really an online player when comes to baseball."I wanna walk down the street and people say," "There goes Roy Hobbs, the best to ever play the game."Comment

Re: Online will make or break this game for me
Knock on wood, I am in the same boat. I have had a very positive experience online. I am not saying it's perfect but I, for one, cannot complain about it. I will say this that I am hard wired with FiOS and being wired definitely helps. I will also say that there was a period of time where I would get a disconnect if I played a second consecutive game online. There would be zero lag and for whatever reason right in the middle of the game....boom....disconnect. No traffic, nothing just disconnect. It happened SEVEN times before I realized it was always happening on the second game. So whenever I was going to play a second game I would log out and reboot. A pita and not the ideal solution but it worked and then after awhile that issue went away. Weird. Anyway I've had friends that would experience lag but they were hooked up wirelessly with a very strong signal (90+%). Once they went with a wired connection the lag disappeared. If you want to reduce lag I highly recommend a wired connection if possible. I pray that with the dedicated servers this year that the lag issues have been resolved and therefore many more quality players will play online, especially in well run online leaguesHow exactly is The Show's online a " fail " ?
